After stripping the engine I noticed that the first & forth pistons have a bit of carbon build up around them , is it advisable to clean them or not ? If do how & what with. ? Wet & dry ?

Yes I know it has 4 cylinders but on one edge of the gasket some have holes anoint 2-5mm in diameter which I'm assuming are for certain pin position when the head is removed !! But I am guessing but I don't want to guess & get the wrong set !!
