how do i access this? and is it a repairable item?

afternoon, still trying to sort the high low motor out on the transfer box. i've had the motor off and stripped cleaned and tested it and it all works ok off the car. also change the TB ecu. i'm still not getting anything thing no LOW on the dash or lights on the H gate, if i put the gear stick...

p.s does the transfer box motor control the neutral position on the t/box? because i dont think this works either

ah i see, no i havent tried this but i only get the whine while the car is moving. do i understand correctly that with the transfer box in neutral i wont get drive? Apologies if i'm sounding like an idiot but im new to the range rover scene.

yeh tried it in neutral but no change in the whine, i'm hoping it's the transfer box input/output bearings rather than something inside the t/box. The filings look ali but cant be 100% sure

engine seems to run fine, as far as i'm aware,although it could be under powered as my cousin also has a p38 of the same year and is a lot faster than mine. but other than that i think the engine is ok, no untoward noises (that i can hear over the transfer box wine), doesnt use excessive amounts...

the leak is like a very light brown clear oil, dont know if i fancy putting it in my mouth though, i felt it between my fingers and smelt it and can only take an educated guess at engine oil.

seems like i'm having none stop problems with this range rover. after i drain it and try and flush all the metal out what should i be looking for?

yeh sorry engine dip stick not the gear box one altho i think the leak is from the gearbox coolant bit by the rad, i don't want to drive it at the moment encase i damage the engine :(

Didn't manage to get in into Landrover solutions due to work :( and over the weekend i parked it in a neighbours drive ad noticed a small oil leak ( i assume its oil) at the front by the rad, topped up the oil and noticed metal filings covering the dip stick, does this spell death for my rangie...

Managed to arrange for it to go in land rover solutions for saturday! Regarding the 'no lo range' i peaked my big head under and had a look at the transfer box area check and cleaned the contacts on the 2 pins that stick out under the selector motor (i think). Didnt change anything so...

no luck with Land rover solutions didnt manage to get there til gone 6 and it was closed. The whine has now turned into a rumble feels like i'm driving on a rumble strip on the motorway... so thats good news :eek: Cheers for the advice Chort, as soon as i get the missus off my back i'll get...

:D i think that may have been laziness on my part there, apologies. I'm just hoping i havent brought a duff rangie as i definitely love it so far.

I'll try and get it done tomorrow, luckily theres a place called Land Rover Solutions right next to where i work :D its just having a chance to get there before it closes! If it is the transfer box ecu any idea on cost? Regards Dan

my apologies its a p38 4.6 petrol/lpg. i'll check the viscous fan asap. also found i have no Lo range gears -_- and no sport button as it doesnt illuminate... and a leak in the windscreen. its also lacking power as i drove my cousin's p38 4.6 petrol ( same year) and that feels a lot faster...

i'll agree with you there Datatek. aerofabrique the whines got to a point where its now louder than the v8 its self. im thinking its the transfer bearings but want to be 100% before i start paying out more money so might take it some where else for a second opinion. :( and now the coolant...
