Hi i had much the same problem, my temperature gauge would go from cold to hot almost straight away, turns out the voltage stabiliser was knackered. Once changed everything was fine. The stabiliser is behind the speedo. Hope this helps.
Hi Slob , no its doesn't go into the red and doesn't boil over and i haven't noticed it over running it just gets to the 3 quarter area and seems to stay there not going any higher, so if your sure i will just relax and enjoy myself. Many thanks for the reply, im sure theres plenty more...
Hi i have a 1983 series 3 2.25 petrol, i had some problems with overheating which i have now cured, this involved flushing the block, replacing the radiator and cap and then fitting a new thermosat as there was not one fitted.
