I did mine last year. Fairly easy job but was bloody difficult to get the old one off. Get yourself an oil strap wrench to remove it. De-pressurise first as per Rave. I didnt bleed the brakes after doing it and its fine but it is probably a good idea to do it.

The noise that you are hearing is the ABS accumulator. Mine made the same noise and the brake,TC and ABS lights used to come on too. Replace with a new one and everything will be back to normal.

Thanks very much CharlesY. I havent had a chance get in there and see the extent of the damage. Definitely both CV joints are in need of replacing and possibly the swivel bearings but hopefully not the half shafts. Both have been clicking badly under lock and the swivel have been leaking...
