Check the Turbo Shaft, if it wobbles about oil will leak into the induction system.

    Another problem with my engine

It seems odd that someone would replace the injection pump but not bother to renew the fuel filter.

    P38 Overheating

Run the vehicle until normal running temperature. Switch OFF. Feel the radiator surface to ensure that it is a near constant temperature across the whole core surface. Cold/Cool areas are an indication of a blocked radiator.

    new type freelander head gasket

The Multi Layer Steel (MLS) Headgasket is NOT a cure all. I would advise against buying any of the K Series powered vehicles!

    4 litre or 4.6 litre???

The 'normal' cracks are too small to be seen with the naked eye although some are easily visible using a Penetrant Flaw Detection (PFD) kit such as the Ardrox kit. More likely to be IF rather than WHEN.

    4 litre or 4.6 litre???

TBH we have only actually seen one crack and that stood out like a sore thumb. On cold pressure test the coolant void in the block is pressurised with air and the whole block submerged in fluid and you can see air bubbles escaping just like when you check a push bike inner tube. Just like this...

    4 litre or 4.6 litre???

We have reconditioned dozens of these engines, especially ones that have suffered with 'Porous Block Syndrome'. On one occasion after the liners were removed (we fit 'Top Hat' Liners to all our recons) we could actually see a hairline crack in the bore of the block structure. On a 'Porous...

    4 litre or 4.6 litre???

Will have to disagree with the statement about slipping liners on the V8s. The liners are not wet liners - they do not touch the water jacket inside the block and they certainly don't slip.

    Head Gasket Failure

When you get it fixed make sure that .... The head is skimmed. New Head Bolts & a Multi Layer Steel (MLS) Headgasket are used. The liner protrusions are correct. A new water pump, Timing Belt and Thermostat are fitted.

    Cam belt

I would get your local man to do the job, also fit a timing belt kit and replace the water pump at the same time.

72k service for timing belts, is this really necessary?

Without a doubt the Timing Belts should be replaced as scheduled. A belt failure will cost a damned site more than the belt replacement cost. US$1500 does seem a bit expensive though.

As a rule of thumb your weekly fuel costs will be about half that of petrol when you run on LPG. As an added bonus some local authorities discount their local parking fees for LPG vehicles. In Sheffield a season ticket for parking with a certified LPG vehicle is something like £10.00 per annum.
