That sounds about right Steve. Turbo has been whining for a while.

Revving the nuts off in traffic

I've got a Defender 19j. When stuck in slow moving traffic for a long time, I first get a smell of dielsel and then when I pull off with very little throttle, the revs go through the roof until it reaches max then dies back to tick over. If I leave a gap in front of me an accelerate hard to...

    Veg oil - again

Thanks blue beasty. That is what I've found. No definitive answer. Well, maybe I'll do what storm99 suggests and try a blend

    Veg oil - again

For those telling me to do a search - I have. What I get is what has happened above. I ask about running a 19j on svo and get people telling about how their td5 works on it or the even more helpful remark above saying "just do it pussy". Brilliant. Thank you to those actually being helpful

    Veg oil - again

Thanks willhayes. My problem is I've found plenty of happy campers running their 200 tdi's, but I wonder how different things would be in a 19j (1989).

    Veg oil - again

Afternoon. Simple question (I thought), but I've not found a simple answer. Is anyone running a 19j on either SVO or SVO / diesel blend? Wasn't looking at going down the route of twin tanks, heaters, making biodiesel etc. Can't find anywhere near the Forest of Dean selling biodiesel to the...

    Defender as a daily...

My 1989 2.5 TD used ever day and I do just over 1,000 per month. Works out at around 25 mpg for 50 miles per day / £12 per day at the moment.

    Tie Rod bush missing?

Thanks for putting my mind at rest, Sypher. It's my first Land Rover so I'm full of stupid questions. Nice to have somewhere to go to speak to people who know what they're talking about. I'm sure I'll be back before long......

    Tie Rod bush missing?

It is the track rod that I meant. What confused me is that the rod passes between 2 (for want of a better term) "plates" at the back of the axle. I wasn't sure if there should be a bush here to connect the rod to the axle.

    Tie Rod bush missing?

I meant to say track rod not tie rod , if that helps anyone.

    Tie Rod bush missing?

Hi, on a 90 (1989 - Diesel 2.5 Turbo), should there be a bush where the tie rod is "attached" to the centre of the front axle - or does it just float. Can't find any pictures on the web and it's not clear in the Haynes Manual. Thanks.

    Engine Oils - total confusion

Hi, I've just bought my first Land Rover - It's a 1989 19J (a 90 with the 2.5 turbo diesel engine) and I want to do an oil and filter change. I have searched for hours and come up with dozens of different suggestions for which oil to use. I live in the UK and will use it in all conditions. Can I...
