    Disco 1 calipers

Yes that is correct James that is why I said V8 Disks as well, the potential problem is the space or lack of it between the edge of the caliper and the inside of the wheel, hence on a D3 the minimum wheel size is 18 inches. I have no idea about a D2, but now I have planted the thought perhaps...

    Disco 1 calipers

No idea about a D2 but I know a D3 the upgrade is to use V8 caliper carriers and V8 disks. The V8 carriers hold the calipers further towards the outside of the wheel therefore better leverage and hence more friction

    Disco 1 calipers

Yes I have, it is not just the piston size it is the fact that the Defender calipers are larger and take larger pads so more contact with the dusk and hence better brakeing

Other arb lockers vs electronic diff locks

No nothing standard on front diff, although an ARB Air locker aftermarket is available for the front. The standard centre diff is variable , ECU controlled bit like a limited slip, and the rear was an option ECU controlled like the centre, but very few paid the extra required and only...

    Disco 1 Head gasket again?

You must identify the cause of the overheating in the first place. A 300tdi is actually overcooled for the UK environment in standard form assuming all parts of the lubrication ( oil ) and cooling system (water) is standard and fully functioning ok. That is one way how it survives in hotter...

    strange gizmo under dashboard

It could be a high temperature override system that switches the aircon fans on to aid cooling of the radiator as the previous owner might have had engine overheating problems. The only issue is that the aircon is already wired for this situation , but perhaps the previous owner did not know...

    Disco 2 Tyre Choice

Very interesting comments sierrafery re EGT and ABS, I need to investigate further, especially as 235 x 85 x 16 is a standard / optional fit for Defenders and an unofficial often used upgrade along with 265 x 75 x 16 for Discoveries. I have not had any ABS issues with my car a 300tdi and I...

Spray everything with Plus Gas numerous times over a few days then on your back under the car with a 6 point socket on a long extension or two and if you do not have an Impact gun, a long breaker bar with a pipe over the end if needed, or a shorter one that you can hit with a hammer to shock the...

    300 TDI Automatic Gearbox

Hi I have a little problem with my Discovery. To be more precise it is with the dip tube for the Automatic Gearbox, as it has come away (snapped off) from its mounting bracket. I can see where the bracket once was on the dip tube but I can not see where it was attached to the engine or body ...

    300tdi battery terminal broken?

Hi I think it is connected to the main circuit fuse box under the bonnet, or at least that is where it goes. It is that black plastic box next to the expansion tank, near the battery. There is a bit of info in the Drivers handbook about what circuits are protected by the fuse box, and supplied...
