Hi,

I'm looking to get some AT tyres for my discovery 2 TD5. I was looking to get Cooper Discoverer A/T 3
235/85R16 120 R but was wondering if they will fit ok on my disco which has a 2" lift.

Also was looking at the Discoverer STT but I understand they are mainly for offroad and wear terribly on tarmac?

Appreciate there is a thread above however if the lift effects it in anyway?

Also will I have to modify the rear door wheel carrier?

Should be fine if you're using modular steel or standard LR alloys.
I use 235/85 x16 Insa Turbo Special Tracks which probably have a squarer profile & they fit ok & only give minor scuffing in the wheel arch liner at full bump.

Hi Pawl,

Cheers for your advice, no worries I'll give them a go. Hoping to take a trip from London to Morocco start of September and need to get something ordered asap. I'll get them sorted then :)

Hi
I have a 300 tdi Disco 1 with a 2 inch lift and I have recently fitted BFG AT KO2 235 x 85 x 16 on original steel wheels and they are a fantastic tyre on and off road and they are winter approved as well ( mountain and snowflake )

I have Cooper discoverer At3's but smaller and they are great, though with those huge tyres you should have an EGT gauge cos it can be catastrophic on a long run, i've had standard size tyres(255/65/16) and fitted only 3.5% bigger(255/70/16) and the EGT increased with 100*C just for that, i removed 265/70 tyres cos the EGT was scary, also at that size you should know that the ABS system is comlpetely mixed up as well, see this just for your information: 255/65 or 255/70 Pros and Cons?

Ref the spare wheel carrier : the 235/85x16 will not fit unless you mod the carrier by turning upside down & re-drill the middle holes. See www.discovery2.co.uk for a bit more info

Very interesting comments sierrafery re EGT and ABS, I need to investigate further, especially as 235 x 85 x 16 is a standard / optional fit for Defenders and an unofficial often used upgrade along with 265 x 75 x 16 for Discoveries.
I have not had any ABS issues with my car a 300tdi and I "test./use" it often and I have 3 mates all with td5 Discos
Thanks for info more food for thought

If those tyres are standard for Defender it means that it's "calibrated" for them from facory with different fuel map, transmission ratios, ABS inputs, deceleration thresholds, etc

Gents, many thanks for the advice. I went with General Grabber AT2's in the end in the size above. Need to do the spare wheels flip from the disco2 website and all should be well. Feels so much different driving that on the 18" I had before. With the 2" lift and the bigger tyres even I struggle to get in gracefully and i'm 6ft1
