    ok got somebody today and done the timing so it is pretty much spot on started it (took a 7-8 turns) and it ran great. got it up to temp switch off and left it 10 mins then it started first turn of the key :) switch of and left it all afternoon and tryed starting it and once again took 7-8 turns...

    ive not had anybody today to help so i cant fit the pin in to check timing. what i have done today is started it up which took a while of turning and turning but once running it ran nice at 900rpm and not a lot of smoke from exhaust so ran it down road and got it up to temp stoped it and left it...

    ye i both haynes and rave to follow it was running fine when i fitted the timing belt i started it up first turn of the key but only for 10 secs or so then switched of and started on the fip belt (wish i hadnt now) and been at it for a day now ill try today to pin the fip better as maybe iam...

    i used a tight fitting drill bit on the FIP so it was quite a tight fit but did move 1-2mm side to side and torqued the bolts. do you think that it sounds like timing and that liitle out can cause a non start thanks in advance:)

    update i have got the freelander running it runs fine when it was cold exept it took a decade to start it but it wont start when engine is hot and when it does it wont rev and smokes really badly (white smoke). i hand turned the engine and the timing marks line up so iam not sure if its a timing...
