Many thanks for the advice, a few jobs for boxing day then.

    3.9efi electrical problem.

My Disco has the annoying habit of losing power if off roading, especially if climbing slopes, it then struggles to tick over for a few minutes, then its back to running perfectly until you try steep climbs of very rough ground again! I thought it was a fuel problem and replaced the fuel filter...

3.9 efi misfire when off roading.

Thanks for the reply, It's an auto and its the same in low or high, it feel like its fuel starvation, but I can hear the pump priming on startup. Not sure what you mean by baffles in the tank? I've brimmed the fuel and it still does it.

3.9 efi misfire when off roading.

I have a 3.9 efi that runs perfectly on the road, at any rev and when driven hard, but as soon as I head off road and try to climb slopes it misfires and cuts out! I have checked the tank and pick up on the pump, I have also changed the fuel filter, but still misfiring. Anyone got any...

    300tdi smokey on overrun.

Bottle of Forte ordered, I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks Ian

    300tdi smokey on overrun.

It's definitely diesel rather than oil smoke, it does lack power at low revs but drives fine once it get up to speed, hadn't thought of the turbo.

    300tdi smokey on overrun.

I have a 300tdi auto, now converted to manual. it has suffered from excessive smoking on overrun and to a lesser extent on drive when cold. I blanked the EGR, backed off the pump timing, changed air filter and cleaned the intercooler. Prior to converting to manual the smoke was far worse...

300tdi Auto, knocking noise on idle.

Just thought I'd put an update to the above problem. After many hours of trawling the internet, checking various suggestions I finally found someone with the exact same noise and symptoms. A phone call to Dave @ Ashcrofts to confirm and hey presto "Broken Flexplate" Box seperated, flexplate...

300tdi Auto, knocking noise on idle.

Checked out all but this suggestion, have you had experience of this before James?

300tdi Auto, knocking noise on idle.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll start with the easy, engine/gearbox mounts, then front pulley (had this on one of my 200tdi disco's) think too noisy for vac pump but will look and the very last resort, box off and torque converter. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

300tdi Auto, knocking noise on idle.

This is no normal diesel knock, its like someone hammering on the chassis. depending on the depth of the snow here tomorrow, I'm going to get underneath and have a good look and listen. strange thing is that the knocking doesn't increase in speed with the engine revs and as soon as you get to...

300tdi Auto, knocking noise on idle.

I think it's gearbox, or more likely the flywheel/torq converter. Because its centre of the box and engine it's difficult to say for sure. The noise is like big end knock but as mentioned disappears completely at 900rpm, no vibration, and no loss of any power.

300tdi Auto, knocking noise on idle.

I've had a look through a number of post of a similar subject but not really answered the question, so was hoping someone out there might have an idea. 300tdi auto, 1997, makes a real knocking noise on tick over, but stops about 900rpm and there is a distinct reduction in the noise if you...

    Petrol to diesel conversion

I think your right seems like a lot of hassle for little or no power. Is the rover transplant reasonably straight forward?

    Petrol to diesel conversion

has anyone out there any pointers on swapping a 1.8 k series for a 2.0 diesel? I have a good shell with a blown petrol engine (2001MY) and a dog rough diesel (2000MY) with a very good engine. the only difference I think there should be is the wiring. Any one??

    Head lights stay on!!

Found a black relay tucked up beneath the steering column, unpluged it lights went off, plugged it back in and all is well, added bonus of stopping the head light wash when the lights are off. Many thanks Ian

    Head lights stay on!!

Anyone come across this problem? The dipped beam on my 1993 disco 1 wont turn off. I have disconnected the switch, the relays in the footwells but they still stay on, the only way to turn them off is to pull the fuses A1 & A2. I had a problem with the main body not being earthed properly, that...
