It would not reset at all, I read that it has a maximum offset of 10 degrees. mine may have been more than that. I can't say for definite cos i didn't measure it but re centring it has definitely worked!!

centred the steering wheel and and adjusted the front track rods using a pair of laser alignment jigs, not an exact 4 wheel alignment but close enough. the tracking was ok to start with so could have just matched the No of adjusting turns on each side I suppose.

Hi, Just an update, Found a full fault code list and 41 was a 'steering angle sensor error' the steering wheel has had a tilt for about 2 years so didn't suspect it, last night I aligned the front wheels and steering wheel to dead centre and that was it job done. Thanks again for your replies.:)
