    Finally found out where the problem lay, traced the clunking down to the IRD- goosed!! :( Did the tippex test on the VCU, was able to turn it, just, with the aid of a long steel bar through the CV joint and a lot of brute force and ignorance - also goosed!! :eek: replaced the bearings as well...

    Thanks for that. The sound does seem to be coming from the front though. Having done a search a suggestion has been the IRD but how can you tell without first replacing it? I'm still puzzled why it would only happen when locking the wheel over if it is the IRD as surely that wouldn't affect...
