    Air in fuel - again

Yes, thanks Jason. Not a faulty connection as such but a faulty new Britpart fuel level unit which was allowing large amounts of air into the fuel pick-up pipe. Problem solved by re-installing the old fuel level unit pro temps.

    Air in fuel - again

Well Marmaduke you were spot-on :-) Twas indeed the new Britpart sender unit adding copious amounts of air into the pick-up pipe. Most likely a leaky attachment of the sensor to the pipe. Trouble is there doesn't seem to be anything in the way of an alternative source - all the other suppliers...

    Air in fuel - again

Thanks Marmaduke, The pick up pipe from the tank is the type which is integral with the sender unit - this is new. The hose from that to the lift pump is one continuous length of braided rubber. This is new and a tight push fit over the pipes at each end - clamped with hose clips not jubilee...

    Air in fuel - again

Morning All, I'm having trouble purging air from the fuel system on the 300TDi in my pre-Defender 90 after fitting a new sender unit in the tank. Have replaced all hoses, remade joints in the fuel circuit and installed new lift pump. Priming the filter bowl by hand takes forever. The engine...

    Installing lift pump 300TDi

Thanks All, very helpful comments. The pump did come with sleeve nuts and olives but I was going to run new 8mm rubber fuel hose clipped straight to the pump and run direct to the tank in order to see what happens to my 'air-in-fuel-problem'. I'm told chafing of the nylon pipe where it goes over...

    Installing lift pump 300TDi

Hello Folk, I'd appreciate a view from anyone with more experience of these things: The new lift pump I'm about to install came with two gaskets for the pump to c/case joint, both the same shape. Are the two supposed to be some sort of spacer arrangement to get the right load on the cam...

    Duff fuel gauge?

Thanks James and Dippy. By substitution the problem seems to be the gauge. Tried a borrowed gauge which responded in the correct sense to movement of the float when all set up on the bench. So new sender is working correctly and 200 - 8 ohm resistance was limited by the setting on the...

    Hello All

Thanks Lisbeth. I was beginning to wonder if I'd sunk without trace! Is that your machine in the avatar? If so did you have the rear side windows installed? Thinking of doing this to my 90 and wonder who does the best window kit. Rob.

    Duff fuel gauge?

Have just bought a 1985 LR90 (see Introduce Yourself thread). The fuel gauge has been playing up since I acquired the thing - initially not registering then going to full deflection with the tank 3/4 full. I've done some testing with the gauge in the car and also on the bench. The initial...

    Hello All

Recently bought a 1985 'B' reg LR90 (pre-Defender) which is my third LR. The first two, both Series 1s, I had in the late 1960s; so being a lot older but evidently not wiser you'd have thought I would have known better. Still, in its defence this car/truck has had a 300TDi transplant with power...
