Does this sound like air to you?

I have. The old pump was clear too (discoloured at most) and I could see the bottom of the tank; sludge free. Thanks.

Does this sound like air to you?

Hello, I have an intermittent fueling issue. It usually crops up near the beginning of a journey and cuts out. If it works more than a few miles it'll be fine the rest of the journey. When it last happened I recorded the noise. Do you think this sounds like air in the system, or a poor pump...

Air in fuel when under power but ok when idling

Hello, I finally got my Defender back after the garage struggled to find my intermittent problem. It went in because I kept breaking down; the fuel pump starts making a noise, then it goes lumpy for a few seconds, then all power is lost. The lights come on, and it's over. It's a pain to...

    04 Defender air-con compressor

... or has anyone got a pic of the standard mount? Thanks.

    04 Defender air-con compressor

Hello, I started replacing the water pump earlier, and started fiddling with things once I got going  The air con has never worked (no gas) and the bearings are shot. I was feeling confident, so decided to whip it out and have a go at replacing the bearing, then a re-gas and see what...

    Hiding an oil leak

Cheers for all the replies. It's a Defender 90, TD5, 04. The TB leak probably just requires a new set of gaskets, it just looks awkward so I don't want to do it! The whole thing is basically damp with oil, and averaging a few drops a day - not enough to be a problem to the TB level, but just...

    Hiding an oil leak

Thanks for the replies. There are a couple of leaks - the crankshaft oil seal, (which was replaced and now leaks more) and some gear oil out of the transfer box. The matting looks like a good idea. Like cable tieing a couple of tampons under it

    Hiding an oil leak

Hello, I'm anticipating getting a bit of a bollocking at work for leaving oil all over their car park. Rather than leave one big easily identifiable puddle, I've parked in a different spot every day for the last five years. There are now about 40 medium sized puddles rather than one big one...

    Difficult gear change when running

good question. I've owned it a month, it could have been 11 years ago and 150,000 miles for all I know. Now you mention it, I've heard a bit of grinding a couple of times when going into reverse. There's plenty of clutch fluid and doesn't seem to be much slack in the pedal. It sounds...

    Difficult gear change when running

Hello, I wonder if anyone with a bit more experience than me can shed some light on a gear change problem I'm having. It's difficult to get it into first gear. I can push the stick forward but it's as though something is stopping it slotting in. Normally I just wobble the stick around...

    Temperature gauge missbehaving

Earthed the ECU, prodded stuff with an earth lead, fixed the brake warning light and reverse lights.... nothing changes it. I cannot explain the handbrake thing. The brake cable doesn't touch any cables, and nothing is frayed. I had a friend crawl under it to confirm - his response was "what...

    Temperature gauge missbehaving

The plot thickens :5bwilly_nilly: The temperature sensor has two wires coming from it - both go to the ECU. The sensor appears to be a thermistor, which seems ok. Just to see what would happen I unplugged the sensor - it was a zero, obviously. I applied the handbrake and the needle moved! I...

    Temperature gauge missbehaving

Ignore that bit... it goes to the reverse light switch in the gearbox :( Fiddling with the gear stick appears to cause the temperature gauge to fluctuate too.

    Temperature gauge missbehaving

Thanks for the replies so far, but unfortunately it's not fixed yet. I cleaned the battery, chassis and gearbox cable contacts as well as the strap that goes from the RHS chassis to the engine. The chassis cable to the ECU is clean and I re-attached a smaller wire that was coming loose from a...

    Temperature gauge missbehaving

Hello, I've just bought a Defender 90, 2004. There are a couple of small-ish problems that I need to sort out - but this one has me confused; When I've been driving for a little while (long enough that the engine is up to temperature), the temperature gauge stays down in the blue/cold region...
