    is this possible

I've seen a 90 fitted with this engine, it was a very tight fit, required lots of messing and worst of all drove terribly as the front end was so much heavier (even though it's an ali engine) sounded brilliant and went quick in a fairly straight line until diff, gear box, propshaft, clutch etc...

    Fuel Prices

111.9p per litre in Malton (North Yorks) It's getting past a joke now. Seems to be going up every day at the moment.

    Life Span

My 200tdi (J reg) has 237,000 miles on and still seems to be quite fit - body is looking a bit ropey in places but somehow chassis is still fairly good. At work we run a fleet of 12 defenders (from h reg up to 07 reg) and they all get the same treatment every year - steam clean and...

    Hilux...

Oh yes................ 18 with trailer on and about 24 on an average day. 27 was best I ever managed. :(

    Hilux...

the 2.4 n/a was terrible, the 2.4td was o.k but not as reliable. 2.5 n/a landrover seem to have more grunt than the hilux but hilux was geared better for road work (had 80 out of it once!).

    Hilux...

Don't buy one - it'll be the worst thing you ever do!!!! I had one (a 93 K reg but it was mint and only had 60,000 on it when I bough it) and in the 18 months I had it blew the head gasket, dropped a big end soon after and then 20,000 miles after fitting another engine (2.4td this time) it...

Even more annoying questions by me :)

Look at something like an eberspacher diesel cab heater -bit pricey but massive amounts better than standard and you can set some of them to come on via a timer so the cab is all toasty before you get in! On an insurance note, I made the mistake of being a named driver from being 17 and...

double shock absorber on the rear

looked into this myself for the 130 and didn't get very far. If rear twin shock brackets exist it would probably still work out cheaper to buy a pair of top end shocks than 4 cheaper ones and the brackets. I've just put a pair of Koni Heavy tracks on the rear and they are adjustable too.

    110 pickup question

but isn't assumption the mother of all f**k ups?

    has anyone ever seen....

.... a twin rear shock setup for a defender? I've seen turrets for the front to take two shocks on each side but can't find anything similar for the rears. Have just fitted +2 " springs all round but can't find anyone doing heavy duty longer shocks. Am fairly often fully loaded and a few...

    what batteries

I'm still learning about the whole expedition preparation thing but I would have said two tractor batteries would be a good set up, slightly heavy maybe but would have a decent whack of power and you would most likely be able to get two for the cost of one of those fancy ones. Should both fit...

    110 pickup question

If it said that in the top right hand corner like everyone else then maybe I might have known. If he's in new zealand and is considering other vehicles than a landy then why not look at such as Dodge Ram or similar? Would swallow a tracked chipper in one go.

    110 pickup question

Problem with buying a mog is that the laws have just changed and that you can't carry a load on the mog itself and use red diesel. If it was a pto chipper attahed to the mog then fine but technically the mog is a tractor and as such is for pulling trailers and running implements - not load...

    110 pickup question

Think he's going to be quite tight for space on a 110 as it is. Beavertail could be an option on a 130 but still gonna have prob with high centre of gravity. Being a tracked chipper, what's the problem with using a trailer? chipper can drive itself into position so it's not like you have to...

    110 pickup question

Problem with going for a flat bed is that the floor is at the same level as the top of the existing wheel boxes would be. I'd not recommend carrying a tonne of weight that high up, even if it was the up-rated 3.5tonne gvw 110 with dual rear springs. Trailer, it might be a pain in the bum but...

    Mud or A/T tyres

I cover around 30,000 miles a year and run bfg muds all the time on the 130. They don't hum too much on the road and have had no issues with grip on or off raod. They seem to wear not too bad on tarmac too. I'd rather replace my muds slightly more often than run the risk of getting stuck...

    Stuck Bonnet

I had the same problem with mine, we took the grill out and the A bar and then you may have to gently bend the whole catch mechanism slightly downwards to be able to get at it enough. Bends back into place no prob when bonnet open
