    Turbo!!

Is there a way to separate the turbo on my 96 Disco 300 tdi from the manifold? I've noticed that there are 4 bolts that seem to bolt the turbo to the manifold (although 1 is missing and 1 appears to have snapped on mine). Is it these I need to remove? Cheers Dave

    Head Gasket Rebuild

I am just in the process of changing the head gasket on my '96 300tdi. I have decided to change all the gaskets and want to know do I use gasket seal for the P-Gasket or not? Cheers Bread.

    Head Gasket/Head????

If I put my hand on the expansion tank the pressure builds up fairly quickly. Once I let go the water in the expansion tanks rises so much it spills out. Bit like taking the rad cap off when the engine's hot. AH well head off get it skimmed as a precaution and put a new head gasket on. After...

    Head Gasket/Head????

Couple of months ago my 300Tdi started losing coolant (had to top it up once a month). The it overheated, as a result I have replaced all the hoses, thermostat, Radiator, expansion tank and cap and water-pump. The issue I have is that when I start the engine the expansion tank has bubbles in it...

    Cold Heater

Finally got to the bottom of this. The P Gasket was the fault, anyway when I finally removed the alloy water pump housing there is some pitting where it attaches to the block where the P gasket should have been. My question is can I clean the pitting up and use a metal filler/putty to fill the...

    Cold Heater

Right then, I flushed out the heater matrix, then filled it. I reconnected the two hoses to the head. I then filled the system from the thermostat housing, I then checked the level at the rad and topped it up until it started to fill the expansion tank. I then topped up the expansion tank...

    Cold Heater

I have a problem where by the heater inside only blows cold air. The temp guage is normal but I have noticed that only the bottom water hose gets warm. I have replaced all the hoses, thermostat, expansion tank and cap. The system seems o be losing water and gaining air but nothing is obvious...

    Why was I not warned?

I recently bought my first "old" car in 16 years and it happened to be a 16 year old Disco 1 300 Tdi. When I got it I wasn't too happy with the smell and set about cleaning it. A simple task you'd think, but no! Every internal panel, carpet, door card and seal has been removed. Washed in soapy...

    New Brakes Advice

Thanks for the advice, standards it is then. The caravan is brand new and has to be serviced every year so brakes won't be a problem. Cheers Dave.

    New Brakes Advice

Thanks for that. I was just thinking that whilst I was replacing them I'd go for uprated on the front as there is little diference in price. My Disco and van will have nearly a 4 ton weight hence my thinking up rated brakes, and obviously it needs to be done soon rather than wait till nest MOT...

    New Brakes Advice

Just got my disco today and last years MOT had advisories on the brakes. I figure that new discs and pads all round are in order. I bought the disco to tow a caravan so what do you guys recommend disk wise? I am thinking X Drilled and grooved rather than the solid type so any particular brands...

I did notice a lack of insulation so I would probably sort that too. I suppose doing it myself gives my a chance to get to know my disco.

It's a none sun roof model. However had a good look on the forums here and seems some guys have stripped it all back then painted it. Which I think looks quite good and less costly.
