Thanks for the repies everyone. I've had someone come out to look at it and it is corrosion. It's up on ramps in the garage tomorrow to see what can be done :( I just hope that the affected area can be sorted out.

Well, they're going to take a good look to see what can be done. If the pipe can be patched in anyway they will give it a bash howerver, the fall-back is to isolate the rear aircon components. I'll be interesting to see what they can do either way :)

Well, it looks as all might not be lost. The pipe retaining collar is largely intact with only one tooth missing so I can still use it to secure the air intake pipe and as that is not going to be acting under pressure it should remain quite solid. If I do need to secure it better I can use Sugru.
