    P38 worry 4.6

I think stuckagainsteve is right cos I've seen mega miles on good rangie v8's and major low miles on bad ones. I've always been skint so I've got high milers( maybe that's the answer) and not had the problems so many others have. It is right that taking the engine to bits is easy, there's just a...

    Once Upon A Time........

As a red blood with ,hopefully, a few more miles to go, I hope he's flattered by the attention his nearest and dearest is getting. I think you look damn good on a horse. They get stuck in the snow too you know! I bet your Rangie doesn't. Yes filling one up is downright scary on petrol from a low...

    P38 worry 4.6

Keep an eye on your coolant and oil, use quality of both and pray. Although i've got to say that my 4.6 has 180K on it and it's the original engine, used a pint of coolant and oil in 3500 miles, doesn't smoke and performs like a 4.6 should. My 3.9 classic used no oil between services at 160K and...

    Once Upon A Time........

Dogsbody-look up the old post from Andrea! Andrea and grey-haired Hubby, well done for resurrecting your Rangie and getting seriously intimate with it before the pleasure of driving it. You took on a serious project that I don't think many would suggest, let alone recommend and have won. Ignore...

lost for choice advise guys which one

I haven't been able to afford an L322 or Sport, but anyway, I'd find a fully historied (REALLYIMPORTANT) P38 4.6 for towing a reasonably heavy weight, the 2.5 diesel just hasn't the torque. Check everything works, then invest in a quality lpg system, the Thor engined cars will need a sequential...

p38 4.6 bigas switch back to petrol runs rough, any ideas

My 96 p38 4.6 is a bit rough on petrol when I switch back from gas, but it clears after a few miles, funnily it seems happier on ordinary unleaded rather than super, can't understand that. It seems that I need to run the rangie on petrol for a week or so (2-300miles) every now and then to keep...

613 miles on diesel P38 - can you do better?

Hmm, on a motorway run, I get about 36mpg equivalent on lpg in my jap spec 4.6 autobiography, mind you it gets 26mpg on petrol then, it's a lot worse round the doors. I average about 29-30 in general driving and I'm happy at that (lpg @67.9ppl round here). I keep a bloody close eye on coolant...

    upgrade stereo p38? harman kardon?

Hi mate, indeed I did . you can get a lead from peter doidge at sounds4wheels@hotmail.co.uk or on 01493 441697. It costs £43 plus p&p but it really is a plug and play if you've got the pink 10 pin plug on your wiring. The sound is bloody awesome thru my blaupunkt woodstock dab54. He sells them...

    whats the best battery?

LRO did a thing on batteries a couple of months ago and NUMAX came out as a cracker for performance and price. Optima gel batteries seem to be the way to go from what I can tel from performance tests. Hope that's a help cos cranking up a diesel takes a lot of "oomph"

Hello - Site (and RR) Newbie with P38 problems!

I would do all the airbags, then you are sure, I've been caught out like that before, and replace the fusebox, just echoing others. I had the death wander, and I echo Datatek, and others. Good luck

No sound and sick of kids singing!!!!

Really daft but have you checked the amp fuses and all the earths, especially in the boot. It may be an idea to find a friend nearby and try checking know working components, but it does sound like vehicle rather than head/amp

    Back again!!

Is your hubby now as bald as me and wandering round going " bad earth, bad earth" and occasionally banging his head on the wall? The absolute joys of Rangie ownership. Ask me one day about changing an exhaust on a rusty late(soft dash) classic, but not this weekend cos it's me michael parkinson...

    P38 O.E Wheels /Tyres -off with the 20's on with the 18's !!

Sarcasm's a low form of wit, however, by man inches I think 18' may well have a 23" or so radius!!! Anyway, saw an L322 today with 24" wheels on, looked bloody silly if you ask me and I bet the ride was s***, and absolutely terrible on anything worse then damp tarmac

    P38 O.E Wheels /Tyres -off with the 20's on with the 18's !!

I've heard from my local specialist that even 18" wheels are too big and the steering like a pig comes back when your tyres are half worn. I'm told that 16" handle best-they look far too small tho'. I can't go that small and am sticking with 18" mondials as standard 4.6 autobiography. It seems...

    Fab News and another question!!

zzr1200-that seems a hell of a lot of fluid, I'll believe you tho cos I ain't done it myself(yet!) I take it its not a simple procedure Like Guzzi linked brakes?)

    Why on earth? fog lights

Have a look on the wheeler dealers episode where they do a P38, Ed China explains why those pipes are there and what they do and how. You can also laugh at that twit Brewer buying a car with bust air suspension!
