How many miles should a TD5 do ?

I'm on 161000 miles (owned from new). Agree with thebiglad above. See report http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/long-term-td5-report-150000-miles-74635.html IMHO the gearbox and TD5 engine are good for well above what I have done. I plan to keep running mine for a long while yet (accident...

Hard to select 2nd gear when cold d1 ok hot

I also think it's worth an oil change. Try refilling with new MTF 94. There was a issue where 2nd gear was a problem, and LR released an advisory to use MTF 94. Made mine better... Here's the supporting info I found: Gearboxes Having covered engines, we can now consider...

    front fog light

If it were me, I would take them off. For the 1 day per year when they can be legally used, there's little point. Use them when it's not foggy and (1) everyone else thinks you're a prat (2) you don't know what the switches do (3) the coppers stop you and breathylise you. Highway code rule...

    Poor Fuel Eco on TD5

Just adding my two-penneth. I have had my TD5 from new (now 8 years, 160000 miles). Completely standard apart from a few accessories - still original exhaust, and still got EGR. Overall I get 31 mpg. Can be up to 34 mpg in summer, on a run. 28/29 mpg when commuting or towing. I use...

    Gear box drain plug r380

I happened to have a low profile 32mm socket (bought for oil filter removal on a different car). It just fitted in the available space (but a normal socket wouldn't have a chance of fitting in the available space). Same as this: Laser Oil Filter Socket 32mm 3490: Amazon.co.uk: Car &...

    GENERAL GRABBER AT2 Tyres

I got my AT2's at a great price from here Ostles Tyres (Scotland) Ltd Tyre Dealer Good guys, great service, good prices - I had my last set of BFG AT's from here as well as the tyres for my (normal) car - worth the 20 mile drive, much better prices/service than hight street ats/kwik etc

    tyres for snow/ice

I've had Grabber AT2's and BFG AT's - both great in the snow... I think the AT2's may be slightly better than BFG in the white stuff. On the other car I'm using Vredestein WINTRAC's and they seem OK for a car - but the Landy's still miles better on AT's.

    1999 D2 needs Coolant

I had a minor weep from a Core Plug just below the excaust manifold, cause a leak of around 1 pint per 1000 miles. Used some "radeld"-type stuff from Halfords and it's been fine since (for at least 50000 miles!). If I ever take the manifold off, I may do a more professional repair, but for...

Whats the most mileage you've clocked up so far in your lannie?

Well, mine may not be the HIGHEST overall, but I have done 160000 with ONE OWNER. Owned from new - long term report here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/long-term-td5-report-150000-miles-74635.html Lots of high milage Landies, but usually had more owners than Pamela Anderson...

    Ace light

I removed my ACE a few months back. Cost was around £380 I think... They remove the ACE pump, and use an idler gear on the Aux belt in it's place. Swap the front antiroll bar for a non-ACE one, and tell the "brain" it doesn't have ACE. And throw away all the pipes underneath. Wish I had...

New TD5 how long will it last?

I have owned my Disco from brand new, and now over 160,000 miles. My long term report is here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/long-term-td5-report-150000-miles-74635.html As mentioned by Oldzed and Engineer, they can be as reliable as most other vehicles, and the ownership (should you...

    GENERAL GRABBER AT2 Tyres

I run 30 psi front, 40 psi rear when on-road... Just changed to Grabber AT2's after BFG AT's. The BFG's were sold with around 5mm of tread left after 85000 miles! The AT2's seem to be pretty comparable, and a lot cheaper - just hope they last as well as the BFG AT's...

    What to do next?

Agree with all the above - mine's almost done 160,000, and still going well. Keep it well-serviced, and do what you can to prevent corrosion (loads of opinions on here as to the best method here, I am a Waxoyl and oil fan) on the chassis, and underbody pipework (brake pipes, ACE pipes if you...

New owner/member Advice on service manual

Don;t think we have many Hairdressers on thsi forum???:D If you have ACE, look for: 1. a large metal box attached to the chassis rail under the drivers' seat - there'll be around 6 pipes attached to it - 4 of these will fun forwards fastedned to the chassis, and be visible behind the...

    removing ace

To do the job properly, you need new (non-ACE) bars, removal of old ACE stuff, new aux drive belt and idler pulley, and reprogramming the "brain". I can take a photo of my idler if you want - may even have a part number on the invoice...
