I've popped out of the Disco section as I have a new addition :) 87' Defender 110. Got it cheap as the previous owner says it was unable to tow her horse trailer ?? It's a 2.5 Turbo, apart from sticking a 200 tdi lump in it, what could be causing this "power loss"? Cheers.

not if you connect the relay as per your original diagram.

pin 30 is the feed from the battery pin 87 carries the live supply via a switch to the spotlamps pin 86 is earthed pin 85 comes from the switched live for the headlamps.

pin 87 is wired to the battery which goes across the switched output on pin 30 which will feed a + to your main beam. pin 85 comes from your spot lamps and is earthed out on pin 86 (no power from anywhere) never said anything about 87a being connected either.

but that was the whole point about the relay pins being numbered wrong, if and it may be a big if someone took your diagram and wired it up as so it may cause an issue. I wasn't being picky just trying to help.

I'd prefer to have a the switch on the low current side rather than inline with the lamps. (especially if you're using standard land rover switches. eg an AMR4138). Also I think your pin numbering of the relay may be need amending.

cause it's on the feed to the lamps (2x 55w = 9 amps approx) and not from the mainbeam feed.
