    Swapping Input Gear Bearings

Hit the first problem - the bearing carrier plate behind the cover is sealed on with some kind of gasket sealant (red) and is stuck on fast. What is the best way to break the seal to get if off?

    Swapping Input Gear Bearings

Thanks guys. I think I will be tapping very gently and carefully tomorrow. I did find a small bearing puller earlier but I don't think it will be up to the job as I doubt it will be able to pull the bearing by the inner race. Oh, what should I use to lubricate the bearings and shafts...

    Swapping Input Gear Bearings

Just took delivery of my new cross drilled input gear from Ashcrofts. I bought it on the recommendation of it being a cheap(ish) temporary solution for giving a bit more life to my worn mainshaft. :o Because of this, I have decided to reuse the bearings off the old shaft as they looked OK and...

    Me poor shaft!

Cheers James, put my mind at rest on that one. :) Lynall - thank you, might buy a new gear from Ashcrofts for the mean time then, might give me a bit more time to save up!

    Me poor shaft!

Gearbox in me 90 has always been a bit clunky, but has gotten worse recently, knocking when depressing/releasing clutch, knocking when shifting gears, etc. Spoke to Dave Ashcroft who suggested the old mainshaft wear, took the PTO cover to confirm fears. :( Video: Looks like I'm...

    Electical Problem.

Fast flashing means bulb not working, I've had it happen on mine occasionally. I've always put it down to condensation in the wrong places, it has cleared up both times on its own. Could try a new bulb to be safe or give the holder an air out to try and clear any moisture. Failing that perhaps a...

    Disconnected Wire

Cheers, I'll leave it be then. Your thread now. :p

    Disconnected Wire

Ah great, thanks. So it's OK to leave it hanging?

    Disconnected Wire

While poking around in the engine bay yesterday I spotted this hanging down at the back. Looks like an earth strap to me, but I'm not too great on engine electrics. Can anyone recognise it and where it should go? Any reason it would be disconnected purposefully? Engine is an original...

    Electical Problem.

Behind this cover. Unscrew two large knobs on either side and it just pulls away. Not sure on how much this applies to the TD5 though, and its probably miles off if you have a TDCI. Depends what model you got!

    defender speakers

When I got my 90 I replaced the cheapo speakers in the front with some nicer Alpine ones. They attach to the standard headlining on either side, had to make up some spacers out of wood which I painted with a nice black finish to accommodate the depth of the new speakers, along with some longer...

    diff lock

Most common cause is the linkage has ceased or come disconnected if used little. I've heard of a build up of mud and dirt that's stopped it from working, cleaned it out and it worked again. Someone else will be able to give you a better description then I can of how to fix it if it's...

    diff lock

Put it in difflock, jack one of the wheels up (with the other 3 on the ground) and try to turn that wheel. It will move a little bit but shouldn't spin freely.

    Door Lock Assembly

Bought a set of door locks to renew my battered old ones as they were rather well worn. Fiddled about in the cold for a while and got the drivers door lock changed. Confession time - it all does work OK now it's back together (better actually as I fixed a few problems) but I'm sure when I...

Head liner from 200 into 300TDi

My 200TDi headlining is sagging a little on the passenger side and a friends used to rest on your head until it was removed! Edit: Ahh, but you're talking about a disco? Well our 300TDi Disco headlining is sagging in quite a few places too. :D

Well it had to happen some time! Half Shaft!

Bad luck on it being the front, back is so much simpler as you said. :( Buster's guide on CV's might help ya understand the front axle more :) http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f41/cv-joint-renewal-68945.html

Well it had to happen some time! Half Shaft!

Could jack up one wheel at a time with difflock in, wheel that spins freely should be the one that the H/S is broken on as the others should not spin free. I think. :confused2:
