    efficiency tips

I'm getting whatever my sig says at the bottom, but I do drive her carefully, never revved over 2900-3000 rpm, turbo should kick in around 1750 revs, you can feel it (just) its maxed out around 2800revs. Sounds like yours needs a good clean out maybe the injector pump tweaking a little and the...

    Air tools...

Yeah, I wouldn't expect a lifetime out of a tool that cost £20, bit unreasonable, but for intermittent home use should give reasonable service.

    Front pulley removal...

Hmm, ok, seems do-able. I'll stick back on top of the pile of jobs to do :)

    Air tools...

Thanks but mine is In the workshop and permanently installed, I use it in the plasma cutter and blow gun etc. I'll look into getting one methinks.

    Air tools...

Any home mechanic types on here use air tools on their landy, thinking of something like this eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace Or is it too cheap? Should I be looking at a brand name even though it's only intermittent use? I figured it would be useful even for simple jobs like spinning...

    Oil leaks, again...

Good news on the diff then, with he transfer box, I recall there being a bit of wear on the hub flange, new flange worth getting??

    Front pulley removal...

Sorry, 300tdi crankshaft pulley. Really don't want to upset the old girl by draining her unless I have to.

    Front pulley removal...

Does anyone know for sure if the front pulley can be taken off a D1 with aircon without removing the fan shroud? I was thinking of replacing my front cover today as the fan bearing is shot but on looking at the job it seems the shroud must be off first which means draining the coolant. I wa...

    Oil leaks, again...

Ok, just finished another 6 monthly service on me disco, nothing major found, all filters changed and diff oils. Transfer box was checked but was as clean as the day I filled it as was the gearbox so they were left until next time. Two problems coming up, the rear diff pinion seal is ****ing...

    NSF Drive Shaft Leak??

Bearing in mind the "not mechanically minded" comment, the item you need is called one-shot lube. It comes in squeeze tubes and you need one for each swivel housing. Drain the oil, squirt in the one-shot and it should hold for a while, sounds like you need the swivel oil seals replacing, pig of...

    fitting gauges

Voltmeter is easy, just wire -ve to earth and tap the +ve onto a switched live somewhere. The oil gauge will need a sender unit, this fits down by the oil pressure switch usually with a t-peice, will need the same +ve as the voltmeter and a ground too. The boost can be teed anywhere in the...

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Said it before but, excellent thread guys. I've done a mild tweak on mine, just needed bottom end pulling up a bit. Has anyone that has done a good tweak noticed any measurable change in fuel economy? Either way, but must be measurable not just what it seems like??

Mines been grumbling for a year now.

    Noisy pully

That bearing is part of the front cover, you can replace it but it's a bitch and needs a good press. And the bearing alone will run you £60. Mine is shagged too, wobbles all over the place, sounds like crap. I struck lucky and caught another complete front cover on eBay for 40 notes, bearing in...

    Newbie Low Range Question

Get her into low range before you get stuck. 2nd gear low is quite useful. I used mine today, 8" of snow drifted up under the old girl, low box, reverse, clutch up and just let her walk out of it at idle. Works a dream, plenty of control, don't need the accelerator.

    thoughts on my first disco

    Disco 1 gutter seals....

Unclip from under the gutter and lever outwards, they break easily in the cold though. Mine are fully sealed with sikaflex, ain't no way they are coming off again:o
