    whining fuel pump TD5

I changed my in tank fuel pump last year - the old one got very noisy . The one I fitted was not OE and it has worked fine since - except for the fact if the tank goes below 1/4 on the gauge the pump gets noisy . The 'old' pump never made any noise so I reckon the replacement won't last...

    Gearbox oil argument!

I used Evo 1 as recommended by Difflock . I had enough Evo 1 and Evo 2 from previous orders to change gbox/trans fer box and diffs . In Sept I was making enquiries about a SH box as I felt it wouldn't last much longer - when it occurred to me to try the oil change . The interesting part to my...

    Gearbox oil argument!

Having read up on oils over the years I couldn't see any point in putting ATF in a manual transmission due to the fact that the demands of the manual are very differnent from those of an automatic transmission . And whether true or false I also read that LR put ATF in the R380 as ordinary gear...

    Disco 300tdi Steering Problems

On the point of uneven resistance could the steering damper be at fault . As its basically like a shock absorber fitted sideways . And sometimes when you test a shock out of the car over its full length of travel you will find very uneven resistance . You could disconnect one end of the damper...

    wheres that f&é'"(g spider?

Have a look at the back of the injection pump - see can you see the stop solenoid . If you can see the stop solenoid you should have a spider ; if there is a lump of black plastic with a few wires going into it covering the stop solenoid you , don't think you have a spider. Not very...

    discovery 2 oil light

I agree the point about oil draining out wouldn't appear to be very important as filter is near vertical : its just that in the past I know owners had problems with rattles on start up/oil light slow to go off which were solved by using a genuine filter (not on Land Rovers ) And from what I...

    Disco 300tdi Steering Problems

Would agree with rooky - even one badly worn end can result in odd (scary) steering . If the ends are OK swivel bearing preload can have a huge effect on the steering - you need to get them checked by someone familiar with Land Rovers . The Discovery has a steering box rather than a steering...

    discovery 2 oil light

Would agree with the biglad - have often seen vehicles on which the oil light was slow to go off but they ran for years without coming to any harm . If the engine isn't revved to encourage the light to off quicker all should be fine .

    discovery 2 oil light

Have come across the problem in cars where the non genuine filter didn't have the valve fitted to stop the oil draining out of the filter with the engine stopped . This often caused a rattle on start up while the oil pressure was buiding up. Is yours a Td5 ? they have 2 oil filters.

Does this sound like vacuum pump?

Doesn't sound like vacuum pump - pedal sticking half way down. Loss of vacuum gives hard pedal but still works . With engine off press and release brake pedal a few times to exhaust vacuum . Then with brake pedal pressed start the engine - you should feel the pedal go down as the vacuum begins...

    discovery 2 oil light

If things changed following an oil change I would imagine the oil filter would be the most likely cause . Even if genuine etc it could be faulty - allowing oil to drain away when engine is stopped and this then causes the delay in oil pressure build up on starting . Restarting straight away...

    Discovery coolant loss.

I had a leak from my 2001 Td5 which was very difficult to track down - eventually found it was from the radiator. It was a small leak from the top corner and only visible when the cowling was removed . I also ran low in coolant a few times and could have done damage but was lucky. Have a...

    Gearbox oil argument!

I have a 2001 Td5 with 213K on the clock ( 166K when I bought it ). Last Sept box began to get noisy - felt sure it was front bearing in the box . Decided to try an oil change - had enough Evo 1 and Evo 2 to go around (diffs/transfer/main). No change for first day or two - then box quietened...

    Depressurising SLS

When I changed the airbags on mine I jacked up under the chassis rails so the rear axle hung down - and bags were then extended . Just loosened of the 10 mm nut on the pipe going into the bag from the compressor - and very little air came out . I had read that you should cut the pipe as close...

Is the wire that determines wheather i have a spider or not

Reckon you have the famous 'spider'. You can bypass the spider altogether using a small harness available from Land Rover . Of course there could be other reasons for the occasional loss of power e.g. my brothers 97 300 Tdi was doing something similar which got progressively worse (including...

    Disco 2 TD5 clutch help

Would say the 'flat' bit goes against the flywheel. If you just hold the disc against the flywheel you will usually find that it will only fit one way - with the 'sticky out ' facing towards the flywheel you will usually find that the friction part won't make contact with the flywheel .

How do i get the SRS light off..

Following the fitting of a phone kit to my brothers 96 300 Tdi the SRS light was on . A few tried and failed to turn it off so we finally took it to the main dlr - and it took them nearly an hour to sort it out . They did say that they hadn't done much with these older Disco's and they had to...

    rear light clusters

Having spent some time trying to replace the brake light bulbs on my sisters 98 300 Tdi I then discovered (?) that the brake lights only operate in the bumper - as in my own 2001 Td5 . If you want to get the brake lights/indicators working in the upper cluster you will have to change the whole...

Clutch pedal nearly to the floor

Make sure level in master cylinder is well above the pipe leading to the clutch cylinder . When I had the engine out of my Td5 last year I found it hard to bleed it also - martins advice is good , thats what I did eventually to get a pedal . Can't remember if its possible to have bleed nipple...

    rear brake fitting

Changed pads , discs , pistons and seals in my sisters 98 300 Tdi last Saturday . I got the pads with the sensor wire - the Disco didn't have sensor so just clipped the wire off . It's important to clean the pistons as well as you can before pushing them back in the caliper - if the pistons are...
