I think I misspoke. If your brake light switch is at the top of the pedal under the dash, that's a different affair than I described. I think you do still need to be careful with the contacts when turning or adjusting the switch, but the switch at the pedal under the dash is easier to adjust...

I've just been through this process. When you get the new switch, you have to be very careful when turning it in and out to make the adjustment. You screw it in deeper and the brake lights stay on. You unscrew it, and the brake lights do not come on at all. There is the sweet spot in the middle...

Seems obvious but this happened to me. Panic set in, and then I tried this. Clutch in, push the Red low Range lever all the way forward. Sometimes it pops into Neutral and then car won't go into normal gear.

I bought "The Club" which is a big red bar, but I had to get the large size for trucks. Even this doesn't fit the big Series steering wheel perfectly, and can be maneuvered off. For me (in USA) it's just a deterrent for overnight parking. You guys have some serious security concerns, though...
