    Red and yellow push buttons

the yellow one pushes down for high ratio 4wd, once its down you have to move the red one back all the way to engage low 4wd this will make it pop back up, then push the red lever all the way forwards to go to high ratio again. the middle of the red lever is neutral on your transfer box.

    Clutch pedal soft then solid?

if you take the rubber cover off the slave you may fidn out that the slave has rusted up, did you use britpart ones? i found that they only lasted 2 or 3 months so fitted a lucas one to mine in the end. but that would go solid then the seals would blow and drop all the fluid so maybe a little...

    Insuring modified vehicles

I used a broker called glynwood for my tdi conversion and they worked out really cheap for me, far better than any other. Same was true for my mate with a v8 conversion. but were both in the same town, try glynwood, peter best, lancaster and a few others allong those lines.

What have I missed out? Clutch won't work

Im pretty sure i used the series 3 complete clutch asebmly on mine and not the discovery cover, maybe thats where your issue lies? I didnt think the discovery cover would work with the series box, or are you using a disco box?

nope used a p38 box, have a look at the thread there are a fair few pics, it was a much easier job than i ecpected to be honest although i have a fair few bits to sort still. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f6/tdi-power-steering-conversion-pic-heavy-209598.html I basically welded 6mm plate...

    No gears/drive

Yeah if it does turn out to be a shaft its a nice easy fix mate, youll probably have to drop the diff out as the ends usually jam in but other than that its not too bad, lets you fish out the little bits of swarf anyhow.

    Power steering conversion advice needed!

Ha Ha nah, i was fed up of having the wheel try and remove fingers off road and the lady refuse to drive it as it was too heavy. Plus im in for a shoulder reconstruction in january so need everything in my life to be as easy as possible for a while. But yeah there is a little butchering but i...

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

So i filled the system and fired her up, below is a little video and i am dead chuffed, it could do with a bit of a bleed but its already so much lighter that the series ever was. I have quite a few more jobs to do before ill be back on the road but this was a great place to stop as it was the...

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

The pump was a nice easy mount as it just went back in the mounting point on the TDi and i had a cutom High pressure pipe made up and Nuneaton Hose and Fittings, a pretty nice place from what I found out. No idea if i overpaid for it :wack: as I have no idea what it should cost. the return feed...

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

So once the bar was all welded up and tested again i first checked to see if i could hit lock on both sides. if this hadnt worked i would have needed to source a longer pitman arm i guess but thankfully all was ok and there is still a fair bit of era movement so the bar was removed and put in...

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

With all the bits ready to fit together i mocked up the fitting and then cut the intermediat shaft to length, this then gave me the steering mechanics in one piece for the first time. IMAG1608 by darransandwich, on Flickr to be honest i am pretty chuffed with the way it looks, seems pretty...

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

so with the box and collum mounted i had to make up the intermediat shaft, the steering box had a different spline to the collumn i had so i split the two UJ's and then made one with the correct spline. I have been told that a p38 one may fit both straight off but these were the parts that i had...

    Power steering conversion advice needed!

I have just put a thread up detailing my conversion to power steering. Saying that mine was to help the missus out as the steering was pretty heavy, mostly due to a half siezed relay but it made a good excuse.

    No gears/drive

Is go for front fwh open and broken rear shaft as the most likely they go with a bang. Does it feel like it selects gear, whip the middle seat out and see if the rear prop spins in 2wd

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

once the box was in place i had to decide on my steering wheel positiona nd mount the collumn. For mounting the collumn we found a bit of box section, drilled and bolted it up to the shaft. here is a pic of it clamped on to test the alignment. The top mount was jsut the original series mount...

TDi and Power steering conversion (Pic Heavy)

I then welded the plate to the chassis and fitted a bit of 6mm plate to the top of the chassis to space out the crush tube. This was the plate all mounted up. IMAG1600 by darransandwich, on Flickr Then i mounted on the box to see how it would look. To be honest i was pretty chuffed...
