with the landy on flat ground and out of gear, i have held the front prop near the axel joint and rotated it until there is tenssion, dose this mean that the bevel gear attached to the prop shaft leading into the diff is worn?

Ok i have looked everywhere and just need some clarification am i right in thinking; to check the UJ's i lay under the landy and holding both ends of the prop try and move it up and down? if this is right how much movement should there be? To check the diff i try and rotate the prop shaft...

Sorry i got the details out of the Landrover workshop manaul part 2 pg 4-f. but to try and clarify the play apears to be where the half shaft joins the front axel.

I am getting a loud bang when i pull off and when i accelerate off in another gear. I have got under the car and i think its the half shaft... that is attached to the bevel pinion housing..... there appears to be allot of play. I can rotate the shaft approximately a inch, is this right. Help...
