Series 3 Who can walk me through setting the valves?

I've got massive engine knock and my badly sealed rocker cover is spitting oil allm over the bulkhead. I've got a couple of cork gaskets ready to replace the gummy ****e that is poorly serving as a gasket right now but I know nothing about setting the valves on my 2.25 diesel engine. Can anyone...

Series 3 I had to giggle at this wally...

At about 4min45sec he says "I researched a ton to make sure I'm not that guy who does something really stupid." Then watch what he does, bless him hahahah

Series 3 How many teeth on a diesel starter motor pinion?

Mine, although I haven't counted them myself because I'm not there, has 10. I thought they had 9 or 11, innit? Just about to order new one, and thought it'd be an idea to know...

I'm positive it's been done before. Just for the record, I'm not actually going to do it ;)

So, you drive around with no chassis number? The doppelganger plan looks better all the time

    Theseus's Land Rover

It's a valid idea, in theory. How do these fellas who swap a chassis over go about it? If you buy a new galvanised chassis and bulkhead, they won't have any stamps or plates on them, will they...

    Theseus's Land Rover

I'm not sure about the rules here, but my point, really, is: Who would know? If I change chassis, engine, gear box, and drive chain, it'd be the same truck. But I'd still have the old chassis etc. that I could rebuild upon. Therefore making that one the original truck, no?

    Theseus's Land Rover

The question actually came up while (drunkenly) talking to a mate last night. If we buy an old series, and then completely construct a new landy from a galv chassis, using 100% new parts, but use the old chassis number, can we get awsy with it? Essentially building a brand new series 3

    Theseus's Land Rover

So, I have a Land Rover. I replace the brake drums because they are worn. Is it still the same Land Rover? Now and then other parts need to be replaced, so I replace them. At what stage does the Landy cease to be the same Landy? Does it ever cease to be the same one? I replace the chassis, the...

Series 3 I think I've stripped the threads of a heater plug

I'll be behind the wheel. My gf will be under the bonnet with instructions to "listen for strange noises"

Series 3 I think I've stripped the threads of a heater plug

By the way. Is there any reason I shouldn't try to start it? I suppose it will be difficult with a knackered plug, but, should it start, would I be risking anything?

Series 3 I think I've stripped the threads of a heater plug

Thanks SD. Yeah, I've just been looking at some youtube vids. Looks messy. I think I'm gonna be out of my depth completely here, so, I'm going to have it towed to a relative who knows about this kind of stuff.

Series 3 I think I've stripped the threads of a heater plug

... I got number one and two out very easily, and replaced them even more easily. Number three, however, was solid. So, I gave it everything I had to loosen it off. Obviously too much. Now it turns but isn't going anywhere. Common problem? I can't seem to find another thread. What to do now?
