    Steering Relay Oil

Take the top and bottom plates off and clean up under them, poke wire down the slots and blast away with diesel and compressed air.

    Steering Relay Oil

Tuffnol is well named, tuff by name and tough by nature, I'd say it was the perfect material in this application.

I see you've got compressed air - good. You need to find a way to blast something like diesel through, from top to bottom to flush it out. One hole at the top and one at the bottom.

The spring pushes the bushes apart automatically compensating for wear.

    Series 1 barn find

According to my little book, RGX numbers were issued in London in 1955 and were allocated to government vehicles only...? Make of that what you will. Lucky you Riddic, I'm jealous.

    Outriggers and other repair parts

I used Britpart outriggers and rear cross member, no issues in nine years. Also two Britpart fuel tanks fitted, they went on fine and are perfectly good. I believe Britpart bought in a dodgy batch of fuel tanks that didn't fit and that problem is now in the past.

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

Not a layshaft, no, but I did ask about BP parts for gearboxes over on LRUK and several people who I have great respect for, people who know what they are talking about, said to use BP gearbox parts with no worries, so I did... several thousand miles on I've had no issues and the gearbox is...

    Series 3 Rumble at 35mph

I had the same problem which I thought was UJs but it wasn't in my case... it was the bonnet hinge vibrating because the slot in the plastic bushes had aligned itself so that the hinge could touch the metal. It made a most unpleasant vibrating noise at around 30mph so, not nice in town. I...

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

I've figured out what happened here, this is what I was going to say: Have a close look at the dog teeth on the 1st/2nd gear synchro hub. Make sure they are not worn or you will have jumping out of gear issues. They need to be sharp cornered, not rounded. I had to replace one on my D suffix box.

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

No, the part number isn't stamped on the part... I wish it was, make life a bit easier; you need a parts book.I can send you a copy if you pm me your email address. PS: Ignore the first line of my above post, don't know what happened there.

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

Have a close look at the dog teeth on the first Land Rover Direct do supply series parts, you need the part numbers, have you got a parts book? They are out of stock of the suffix A layshaft though but Paddocks have it.

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

Yes, a fortuitous accident that it 'spilled its guts', at least you now know... I reckon it needs so much that it is only worth keeping for spares or perhaps in the hope that enough second hand parts can be acquired to build a decent box. I can see that the layshaft is u/s and other expensive...

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

Not looking so good now is it? I get my gearbox bits from landroverdirect.com except for bearings and seals which I buy from a bearing supplier so that I can be sure of getting quality, (ie, NOT Chinese).

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

What tottot said, not forgetting the reverse pinion right down in the bottom, plus: make sure the detent springs on the 3rd/4th synchro hub are all present and correct. They are the little leaf spring wotsits that sometimes come out and get mangled, there should be three of them. Now would be a...

.. bought a gearbox now what?!

There's no way of knowing for certain, all you can do is look in the top as Tottot has already said. You will have to take the top cover off; that's the one that covers the selector forks. It isn't that simple though because you can lose the detent balls in the box if you don't tackle it right...

Series 3 Drum Brakes Vary In Effectiveness

They do tend to grab at the first application of the brakes after having stood as Bobsticle has said. As long as they work ok the rest of the time...? You, however, seem to imply that you are less than satisfied with your brake performance? Which makes me wonder: is yours an 88 and does it have...
