Hi folks, does anyone know if the TD5 injectors should have clearances reset periodically or only when disturbed/removed for other reason.

Personally I feel this is a sad reflection on the skill level of the dealer network.

whilst i love my defender i have driven most of Subaru models over the years and methinks a late model Forester could beat it on snow covered roads

mine did 85k on original shafts then started to clunk if you not like miss daisy on clutch/throttle. Have a look at this video which shows how to check splines

uj should have zero play in it

if it has seperate drive flanges it will have rubber caps covering the wheel end of shaft . pull off the cap and you will see the end of the splines and can see the play if you jack up the wheel and rock it

just had similar with mine and found rear half shafts and flanges worn badly

if you do not go off-roading i would stick a pair of SU carbs on if you can find em they give much better economy than horrid horrid strombergs. Years ago i did this on my v8 90 and it gave me another 4mpg which does not sound much but given i was averaging around 15mpg i was delighted!

personally i would always measure piston protrusion and use correct gasket as otherwise you are trusting whoever fitted the last gasket to have done the job properly.
