P38A No power after replacing FIP seals

Thanks for reply. Strange that the in tank pump should fail just now. The car was running fine before, just peeing diesel... He says he can hear the pump running but no delivery at filter. I thought that once it had started the FIP kind of took over?

P38A No power after replacing FIP seals

I am now too old and shaky to do the FIP seals myself so took it to a bloke nearby who did them today using Biketeacherdave's excellent guide. Phone call this evening him saying that it starts fine, revs okay, tickover good but put it in drive and there is no power and it dies. He's tested the...

P38A Just can't do it anymore...

I've been surprised too. Brim to brim on a motorway trip showed 32.4. Round the houses 28.6. What is your view of 18in wheels over 16s? I think I prefer 16s (a bit more rubber between wheel and road?) or is it just a styling thing?

P38A Just can't do it anymore...

:D Said I was getting old, not rich! ;) I can nearly afford to run this one! It averages around 30mpg which is really good and better than the old one...

P38A Just can't do it anymore...

:( Sad to say I now have to own up and admit that I just can't do most of the work needed to properly repair/maintain the car anymore. Well I can, but then suffer consequences for too long afterwards. So I'm having to give up my lovely old Rover. (See for sale forum) :) Good news is that I've...

P38A Range Rover Want a project?

NOW SOLD to someone who is going to restore it!:) I've loved this car! I'm the second owner, had it for eight years and it has always been a reliable daily drive. No electronic problems ever and never let me down. I would do the work needed if I could but I'm just getting to the age that I...

    P38A Radiator

There have been questions here recently about where / what type of replacement radiator to get. I have no affiliation to either of these firms but can highly recommend getting a Nissens radiator from Arksglobal. The one for my 2.5 DT (part no. 64309) was £108, and delivered in a couple of days.

P38A Wanted Syncmate in Northumberland, Newcastle area.

I may be stating the bleedin' obvious but ... a weak battery will cause all sorts of malfunctions. I'm not sure this'll help much either but I'm in the Borders and have got Nanocom, but don't have unlock codes for Gems... Maybe you need to check bonnet open/shut sensor?

P38A Oh what have I done...

Yup I think I understand that now. Now to be sure I find the correct hole this time...

P38A Oh what have I done...

I'm beginning to think I've maybe had the pin in the wrong hole:oops::rolleyes: I'll have another go tomorrow and set modulation at 95 deg. water temp. Thanks again everyone:)

P38A Oh what have I done...

'Scuse my ignorance... Timing mark is where? on crankshaft pulley? and is that TDC and is that when the pin should locate in the correct hole?

P38A Oh what have I done...

So is it a case of either dial guage or modulation? Or set with dial guage and then adjust for modulation? Can you please tell me about injection set point/actual?

P38A Oh what have I done...

I think RAVE says vertical, insert dial guage, preload, then rotate engine 'till pin locates? Is that when lobes are horizontal? Are there two holes that the pin will fit?

P38A Oh what have I done...

The old bus is well run in at 246K, so I guess the chains are a bit stretched by now ! I've read about that - that there are two holes. How come? and isn't that bloody typical! the pin fits into both? I've done it once before when it started to need a bit of cranking to start when hot. It's a...

P38A Oh what have I done...

I didn't take the pump to bits, it's all as is was. I understand about marking to get the pump back together if the top part has been taken off... Strange thing tho' , which I would appreciate some help understanding. I set the static timing with dial guage and flywheel pin etc. It started okay...
