Wanted 200 tdi defender 90 rear axel

James- what’s the difference between the disco rear axle and that on the 110? If I wanted to upgrade my rear axle to discs I assume I’d need one off a newer defender (mines 1992 with original Salisbury axle)

Wanted 200 tdi defender 90 rear axel

Appreciated. Not surprised at 90 but am surprised at Disco which I’d have thought has a similar weight pulling / load capacity

Wanted 200 tdi defender 90 rear axel

Just to hijack this thread a minute. Would disco rear axle be suitable for 110 Defender or just a 90? My 200 tdi 110 Salisbury axle getting a bit worn and a disc brake upgrade would be Ideal

    Defender front end wobble

I had a panhard rod bolt shear on the motorway. The wobble frightened me to death. Luckily only a few miles from home so managed to leave motorway & limp home. Anything above 20 mph felt suicidal

    Leak from Heater Box

It’s easier to take heater out. Not a hard job but as others have said it maybe useful to have a second person. I changed matrix to a bigger Alisport one which requires a bit of modification to heater box. Take the opportunity to fit new gasket between heater box & bulkhead at same time - you’ll...

    Fuel gauge problem

Yes. Someone’s suggested blue hylomar on the gasket. Going to run the tank down & remove it again to se if the gaskets creased or something stick behind it.

    Fuel gauge problem

Right, advice needed. Got the fuel gauge sender out y’day after struggling with it for 2 hours. It had been painted & undersealed over. Tanks relatively new and undamaged. Cleaned up mating faces and put new gasket and new sender in tank. Fitted new locking ring in place and twisted by hand as...

Cannot select gears, tried a bunch of stuff but can't figure this out !

Check the adjustment on the master cylinder actuating arm. Changed master cylinder on m6 lightweight & i5 ended up being a nightmare as brand new seals failed after a few miles. Also, if the arm incorrectly adjusted then the valve that allows hydraulic fluid back into cylinder once clutch pedal...

    building a Heritage style Defender

New seat covers are fairly easy to fit yourself - just buy the foam bases & buy new covers if the frames are ok. I did my old front seats a few years ago (before the rebuild) and used the Exmoor trim ones to match existing middle row of seats. When I rebuilt I got complete front seats in dark...

I know, but I’ve heard stories about getting it in crookedly & fuel leaking out!

    building a Heritage style Defender

I’ve had bad experiences with Exmoor trim recently. 1. New seats I bought for my Defender 2 yrs ago split at seams (Drivers seat). They replaced under warranty. One of the middle row seats hadn’t got a tapped hole to fasten it to frame on one side. That was also replaced. 2. Exmoor trim...

    Fuel gauge problem

Think I’ve sussed that the 2nd wire is low level fuel warning light. I didn’t check the dashboard when disconnected so will try again. I’m looking to replace the sender unit. Doing some research there’s a tool for removing the locking ring for TD5 models but not one listed for earlier ones...

    Fuel gauge problem

Afternoon all. I’ve got a weird problem with my 200tdi 110 fuel gauge. When I fill the tank right up the gauge sticks to the top of the gauge until I’ve used about a 1/3 of a tank then it Used to read correctly. I could live with that! However, more recently, when I’ve used some fuel and the...

    Bleeding clutch!

Yes, something like that. The problem with my Lightweight was the seals started breaking up. It was a brand new genuine Girling item but the seals had obviously perished. When I took it apart for the third time there were bits of perished seal in the reservoir. I ended up replacing slave...

    Bleeding clutch!

I had a similar problem with my Lightweight recently. Eventually found out it was the brand new master cylinder seals that had failed. I also bought myself a reverse bleeding kit to ensure all the air removed from the system. Also found that even though I’d set up the adjustable rod as per...
