    Overpriced landies

I would love a Landy but there just not versatile. They do the rough stuff but the thought of a long drive in one gives me backache just imagining it. I curse the fact there so limited as apart from that I'd have one in a flash( and the price of course) I liken It to the xjs that's the same. Not...

    Overpriced landies

We have one called Jim hallams near us. Incredible prices pumas seem to be the daftest. Followed by td5s. Someone's making a right killing somewhere. I'm actually thankful p38s are practically valueless! I curse the price of used parts these days as they seem out of step with the value esp with...

    Overpriced landies

As a p38 owner I'm constantly stunned by the prices for land rovers ( defenders) just looked at the simmonites site on the bay. That market is beyond buoyant.its bloody hot air balloon. £9000 for a 4l v8 with nearly 100000 miles? 20,30,40 grand bs special editions. Wtf is that all about can...

Dreaded vibration on p38, help please.....

Spigot rings are a real basic. I drove with one missing once( changed wheels around) it was undrivable. May I suggest a break down on all suspension bushes changed. Radius arm bushes often cause these issues. Also ball joints. Often neglected but cause havoc.

    Intake manifold mismatch

Its a v8 mate. After much searching I've found my leak. It's from the intake manifold right at the back. It doesn't happen till 15psi. I'm guessing there's a mismatch between the angles on the head/manifold .The rubberised gasket must take up some space but higher pressure leads to leaks. I did...

    Carbon Cleaning

Egr valves can be troublesome on diesels getting clogged up with carbon sometimes they stick open ( or closed). When they stick open the turbo won't spool up because of pressure leak. When they stick shut the cel light comes on. The cause is often subtle from short journeys poor diesel slightly...

    Coolant leak

Bin loosing a bit of coolant lately and very annoyingly. Anyway I thought Id put on a hot pressure test. Found one leak on an inaccessible hose. Sorted. Another one was very difficult to see but resulted in coolant heavily dripping off the bellhousing. Now to be fair it's bloody tricky to see...

    P38A Coil packs

Gems cam sensors can be extremely troublesome. If they short internally or on the wires you are buggered. It blows the ECU as soon as the keys turned. It leads to massive overfueling thus black smoke very bad running etc. Just unplug it and the engine should still run ok. It's difficult to...

    P38A Backfires back.

Wow that's a byatch! Are your plug leads right? Coil packs working ok. Maf sensor working well( swap for a good un) fuel pressure, injectors ok. Some clever diagnostic work required here. Jb

    P38A Alarm bleep on lock?

Strange mines a 97 hse 4.6 and I've just disconnected the battery for years reconnected and it's bin fine. Reset all the bilge...fine. sunroof has to go the full Monty. Slide back forward then vent then closed finger on button...set. look for the slide stopping it going right back.

    P38A Probably more stupid questions.

12 point splined. Can't remember the exact size. 13 or 15 I think. I hate off and near as it really confuses me. So the driver's side(UK) head is considerably trickier than the passenger side head because of the need to remove the steering intermediate column to access the manifold bolts at the...
