    Going to pull the gearbox off my 300 defender, just wondering whats worth replacing while I've got it off. I'll do the clutch, crank oil seal and g/box mounts but is there anything else you'd recomend?

    Its trans related, 5th and reverse are really stiff to engage. Its not the shifter out of adjustment either.

    It's developed into a squeek now. I drove about 10 miles tonight and it felt like there was a dry bearing/something tight making a very faint werring noise, but hard to tell over the road and engine noise. Then it became noticably less powerfull and when I touched or let off the throttle there...

    It's not driveline, with it in neutral and the engine held at steady revs it still does it. It doesn't sound right at idle either.

    I've looked all over the site but not had much luck. Its the injection pump, not lift pump thats tapping. It could be coincidence, or it could be that the previous oil used was a thicker grade to the one I've used, masking these problems. But this wouldn't cause power loss

    It's high on the list of to do's, but it appears to be an engine related problem. I think the under load judder is unrelated, but mentioned it just incase it was a clue to the problem.

    Ta. I was a mechanic for a good few years, so know my way around an engine, but it's always good to get input from people who know about specific things, like landrovers :)

    One thing I haven't checked is the valve clearences, but I'll do that tomorrow when the engines cold before I leave work.

    Before leaving work tonight i got under the bonnet and had a listen, the fuel pump sounds noisey, making a ticking noise and the lift pump lever doesnt return on its own. Its a cheap delphi pump thats never worked manualy, but then neither did the one I replaced.

    A leaf in your fuel tank? Seen this sort of thing on tractors, its floating around near the pick up in the tank, then as the fuel shifts to one side so the leaf gets sucked onto the pick up
