    Newby Discovery 5 Owner

Completely a fan of the brand over the years since my old man's series when I was a boy, and having owned almost every single model myself with the exception of the freelander, and just about had the full experience with regards to their very best and worst. However in this case I would have...

200TDI Cut out and won’t start again

Cam belt still in one piece? If you've got fuel, you've got air and it still won't run, check if it's still in time. Have someone crank it over whiles peeking through the oil hole to see if your rockers are moving.

    Help required if poss

Before you "log out forever", take a second to play back what brought you to this forum in the first place - a google search on how to solve a problem you were having with your land rover perhaps? Yes this forum is quite unlike any other you may be used to, either in the hearty exchanges among...

    Unusual 300TDi

I would imagine if the 300Tdi is a factory install, then the vehicle would most likely be a special one-off or limited run, because the 3 door discovery's were powered by the 200Tdi up to 93 or thereabouts.

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 tailgate handle - what the frack are they made of?

That's hilarious!!:p Excellent writeup. Whatever it is you do for a living, if doesn't involve you going to the bank with a wheelbarrow to collect the proceeds of literary work or comedy production, then you're certainly missing your calling!!

    Disco 3 (LR3) Wheels

Understood, just meant to point out the fact that they might not fit considering the hub centre of the D2 wheels are smaller than that of the D3.

    Disco 3 (LR3) Wheels

I stand to be corrected, but I think the hub centers for D2 wheels are slightly smaller, hence the need for adapter rings when installing D3 wheels on a D2.

    Chronicles of My Discovery 2

Looking good. Where did you source the rear bumper, if you don't mind me asking

What a Difference an Oil Makes.

You're just a few centistokes shy of gear oil. Oil that thick must not be doing your oil pump drive any favours, and if its turbocharged, your turbo must certainly not appreciate the late deliveries of lubricant when the engine is started up from cold.

    300 Tdi Rebuild

@Al2O3 I certainly hope this does it, so this thread fades into memory as you get around to properly enjoying your landy without having to pop the bonnet every few miles.

What a Difference an Oil Makes.

It most certainly does make a difference to consumption and even leaks, especially around seals. Its all down to the breakdown in viscosity of the oil as the engine gets up to operating temperature and beyond.

Any reason not to use engine oil from unsealed container?

If you ask me I'd say either through successful advertising by the various lubricant manufacturers, or due to the fact that people tend to worry more as cars have become more "fragile" over the years, I just think its amazing how much the average person these days worries about the oils that are...

    300 Tdi Rebuild

That picture looks like a 200Tdi with manifold and turbocharger from a 300Tdi - note the EGR port on the manifold. Not sure 200Tdi had emission controls that the 300 came out with.

    Diesel knock or something else?

That is definitely not Diesel knock.... You can distinctly hear the top end diesel and valve train clatter, but unfortunately I have to say that sounds like mechanical noise. Slacken off injector pipes one after another holding a rag to catch the fuel spray at the union whiles listening out for...

    BennehBoy's D2 adventure

Don't we all.... Its a never ending cycle where the more space you find, the more stuff you buy for projects you never seem to find the time to attend to, and the more stuff you keep, even from vehicles you no longer own. Talking about myself now.... I'll get me coat

Need advice for first 4x4, Series 2/3 or Japanese pickup

I'd suggest you take a test drive in either of the choices at hand and make an informed decision. Obviously the newer vehicles such as the ranger offer creature comforts, refinement and amenities that would have been just a few clicks short of witchcraft in the days a series land rover rolled...

    PAS pump query

Its an open system as in fluid is continuously fed from and returned to the reservoir and as such, doesn't really require bleeding as you would a closed system such as brakes. Typically these pumps whine when loaded, so if the new ones are whining away unloaded, it wouldn't hurt to check the...
