    It's all gone wrong

While it was in I decided I'd point out a few other niggles so the other repairs are timing chain tensioner, lower forward control arm, pcv valve and a wheel bearing. I've had a search on Google and it seems to common practice that an alternator gets put into the fair wear and tear category. The...

    It's all gone wrong

Update: Spoke too soon.......kind of. Spoke to the mechanic today who said they've given the go ahead for all the repairs EXCEPT the alternator, apparently it is a wear and tear item although he said he can save me some labour while the engine is in bits and fit one for £100 if I supply the...

    It's all gone wrong

Quick update. Phoned the dealer who said without hesitation that I can Either take the car to a local garage for an assessment or they will come and recover it and have it looked at by a land rover specialist who they use so all the issues I have can be looked at to see where we go from here...

    It's all gone wrong

They aren't a main dealer but neither are they trading from a portacabin and a small forecourt. It is a quite large showroom with plenty of high end £20k plus cars so I'm expecting at least a professional response and not one I would expect from a 1 man band cowboy. If they make an offer...

    It's all gone wrong

Thanks for the replys, very helpful and informative. As far as the control arm goes, I didn't think it was worth driving from Derby to Hinckley and having to lose my car for a day and also having to arrange transport to and from the point of repair (dealers local garage) for the sake of a 20...

    It's all gone wrong

Do we have any legal genius' on the forum? From the beginning: Bought my L322 4.4 Vogue on 13th March 2015 from a 2nd hand dealer (showroom) and did not take out any warranty on it. After a couple of weeks I noticed a wheel 'shimmy' and investigated to find a faulty lower forward control arm...

    L322 Door Mirror

Can anybody help me to identify this mirror. I have tried to find one on ebay and also looked on Google images and can't find one that has the same fixings to the adjustment motor that I need. I would also like to replace it with a normal non auto dimming mirror if I can. Thanks, pic attached.

    My DIY Pixel Pix

Hi, long time no post from me as I got rid of the P38 a long time ago. Got myself a 2004 Vogue a few weeks ago and just had a go at the pixel fix. Worked like a charm 1st time and I'm so proud of myself I have to tell everybody lol. Did the job by replacing the ribbon cable and ordered bulbs at...

    I'm back!!!

Not that I suppose anybody missed me but I gave up with the P38, it was a dog that needed more than I was willing to put into it. Fast forward to March 2015, just bought myself an L322 4.4 with a BRC LPG conversion and it also has a 2010 facelift and I love it so here I am, back trawling the...

    4.6HSE P38 Engine query

If it is down on a cylinder/loss of power then the suggestion made should be the first things to check. If all seems ok there, you might have to go a little deeper. I had lifters stick in which completely screwed the gap on the tappets which caused a loss of power, lots of tapping noise but no...

    judging by this

I'm still waiting for a reply from the SD1 breaker I mentioned. He said he has points dizzys but he isn't sure about the drive at the bottom or what year the cars they came out of were. I asked for pre '76, if later ones will do, let me know the details and I could try him again. PS, its still...

    Head Gasket (I know...again)!!!!!

Thanks, being able to rule the helicoils out would be nice, passenger side head gasket has deffo gone, I've seen it poking out between the block and the head so not a cracked block. The head that split the gasket was the opposite head to the original failure, the gasket was fine on the...

    Intermitant Over Heating 4.6?

Pressure in the header tank and firm (but not solid) hoses are normal and are all part of making sure the water doesn't boil too easily. Folk far wiser than me would probably be able to explain it but I think water under pressure has a higher boiling point and some pressure is actually required...

    P38 too thirsty?

Fuel computer tells porkies. My 4.0 does 8-10 round town and about 15mpg being gentle on a run.

    Head Gasket (I know...again)!!!!!

Yes, heads were pressure tested and skimmed. The block is helicoiled and some suspicion has been pointed to one of these having slipped but the studs are quite securely fastened so this doesn't look likely. Quick background: Bought car Aug 2010, removed heads, pressure tested, skimmed, new...

    Sills and the MOT

I'm probably wrong but if the rotten section is more than 30 cm away from a suspension mounting point or seat belt anchoring point, is it a testable area due to the Range Rover having a seperate chassis? Don't know why I've got that in my head, my dad used to run yanks with a seperate chassis...
