On the wingnut mount - there are a lot of those about; I was referring to the way it mounts into the roof rack track, sorry, I should have been a bit clearer :) WRT the cable ingress, yeah. Not an easy choice. The clean way, not leaving any trace on the vehicle for later resale, would be to run...

Oh, now those are rather neat :) I like the first mount; it's easy for you to nip out and fold it over without requiring tools (assuming the wingnut isn't done up too tight, of course!) - the second would require a couple of spanners on hand.

Other what have u done on ur disco today

There are a few schools of thought on antenna mounting on cars; one option used by several organisations, mostly, it has to be said, in the USA, is the NMO (New MOtorola) mounting system. Yes, it tends to require a new hole be drilled into the car body. But that's where it tends to stop, as...

Neilly, you beat me to it :D Gary, the VSWR adjustment will likely be something of a bitch. See if you can find a manual for it before purchase, to see how much trouble that might be for you. Other than that, yeah, it's a nice low-profile idea, but it does sacrifice range as opposed to a more...

The antenna length in total, less mount, is approximately 1.257m. This based on the 49.25" in the specs (see http://www.diamondantenna.net/pdfdocs/CR8900.pdf) The foldover is at about 12cm, less mount height. You could fold it down when not in use, but you'd have to remember about the lower coil...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

When I redo the headlining on my Disco 2, I'll be looking to install a couple of thin conduits with mouselines, to assist in routing the wires and/or cables in later electrical/electronic additions that may occur down the line. The actual antenna for the AM/FM receiver in mine is apparently the...

    Any Rover HAMs Here?

Just found this 'ere thread (oops!), so better chime in... G1LIW, since 1985 :) Currently plumbing in my FT-8900R into my Disco 2, but been messing about /M for some time now (at first with an old FT-290R Mk 1 on the dash of a Ford Fiesta 1.1L back in the distant mists of time :D ) Also have...

The Antenna (Comet CR-8900 Quad band) terminates in a 259-style screw threaded connection into the mount (Diamond K-400 heavy boot lip mount), which is likewise fitted with the female 239-style threaded connector. I'm well aware of the rather cheaper end of the market CB accessories, and avoid...

My mobile Amateur Radio kit, a Yaesu FT-8900R FM Quad Band transceiver :) The installation's about 60% done; I've got the antenna cable running from the storage bin, through the trim, along the line of the carpet under the edge flooring trim, into the corner post trim, out into the door via the...

Well, the installation of the Amateur Radio set is about 60% done on that as at today. Good lord, who the hell designed the Disco? Must have been a ruddy small person (Can't say "midget" anymore, might **** someone off!), 'cause those damned torx screws for the storage boxes in the boot trim are...

    Other Ground loops and ICE

OK, follow now :) Normally in that situation, I'd think about decoupling capacitors in the line; presumably your earlier suggestion of the 'ground loop isolators' are a ready-made somewhat 'modular' way of doing it without the fiddly electronics skills hardwiring such a solution would require...

    Other Ground loops and ICE

Another fairly cheap method is a couple turns around a ferrite ring of the audio lead between the ICE and the device. This one, from Farnelle, is simplicity itself to use...

Disco 2 Rear storage box fixings question...

Right, while the weather was being well behaved today, I had a good long dekko into the stroage bin. Yep, no bleedin' screw holes, so I'm inclined to agree previous comments that it was done to that wagon either without it being mentioned in the article, or by a PO to the guy in the article...
