Disco 2 Rear storage box fixings question...

Thanks, and no kidding! Still not happy with the VSWR. It's excellent on 2m (practically 1:1, the needles on the meter hardly move), but for everything else it's a bit higher, esp on 6m and 10m. I'm pretty sure the higher than desired VSWR is down to the grounding of the cable. When things calm...

Disco 2 Rear storage box fixings question...

First and foremost, I'm VERY glad I had the foresight to invest in a full kit of these things a while back. They were utterly invaluable in saving me time and swear words today! This is the where I decided to bring the cable out into the open air. It's between the legs of the spare wheel...

Disco 2 Rear storage box fixings question...

I thought this posted successfully yesterday - obviously it didn't, so let's try again... You lot are going to love this :rolleyes: There is a funny side to everything. Seriously, there is. The other day, I checked my stores, and found no solder flux paste or fine steel wool. I...

*rolls eyes* Penthouse lights are (generally) 24vdc short milspec flourescent striplight units, taking a milspec-style DIN plug with three pins :)

Right, a bit like the forerunner of the penthouse lighting plug and sockets, then?

OK, edumakate me, what on Earth is a 2-pin BNC? This is the BNC I'm aware of:

Disco 2 Rear storage box fixings question...

I *did* have a whole stack of 60/40 solder, but I'm stuffed if I know where the damn stuff is now. So, had to nip out to *hiss, spit* Maplin, and all they had was the lead-free crap :( Needless to say, it flowed in all the wrong places, not down the hole it was supposed to. A "bit" of a small...

RG-58/U and a confounded N male connector. Damn hole in the pin was less than 0.5mm, and the lead-free solder just wasn't playing, the air became rather vividly blue. I have a couple of PL-259s on the way from Nevada in Portsmouth now, along wiht an N(F) <-> SO-239 converter plug, and some 60/40...

Disco 2 Rear storage box fixings question...

Right, quick update. The radio's not yet fully installed, but most of the work's done. The storage bin front panel has been strengthened inside with a gash bit of MDF, and the radio mounting has been fixed to it inside the bin; the antenna cable has been run from the edge of the tail door...

Heh, updated my profile a couple of weeks ago, when I realised, belatedly, that it was out of date too ;) Nice :) Finally got my disco 2 td5 through just before Christmas; had to get the ball joints on the steering knuckle done, and got, after that, just one advisory: "Oil leak" ;) OK on the...

I've actually SEEN someone begin to do the 250 Amp one before now. Amazing how, when everyone else is backing away, they suddenly realise that their mates are videoing them doing something as an entry for the Darwin Awards ;)

Excellent :D Now, mechanical tool kits, you have to be taught to use properly, and strangely enough, the same applies to the electrical/electronic ones as well...! It's amazing how many people I know, who haven't got a clue about how to do electrics properly, from a well known hole in the ground...

Now that's a neat idea, although I'd go for self-adhesive cable tie mounts, as they tend to be a bit neater than gaffa tape ;) If you choose this method, leave a bend in the cable outside the cable gasket that is lower than the bottom edge of the hole, as a water guide away from it (see diagram).

For a temporary installation, yep, no arguments there. However, I'm a little leery of 12v accessory plugs, as they can (literally) be a movable feast; a poor connection inside the socket to the plug, and it's arc city. Vibration on roads, let alone off road, has been known to unseat accessory...
