What have you done to your Landie today.

Today I changed the Transfer box oil and both front and rear differential oil. Smelly stuff! Also re-greased the prop shafts front and rear, put enough in to force the old dark brown grease out. Finally arrived at the point where the Disco II is now serviced on all the checks/replacements in...

Discovery 2, Changing the door lock actuators

Thanks Battenburg for the detailed walk-through! I replaced my drivers side lock today as it was not opening consistently. The job took me about 4 hours due to finding some nasty work someone else had done prior to my ownership. First issue was 3 missing screws from the door card, one on the...

Hi fredbloggs, Indeed I have, I recently purchased my Discovery II so have set about servicing and amending minor faults. The EGR was one of the first things I did. I had a bit of drama with one of the manifold bolts shearing off so had to remove the radiator and intercooler to get room to drill...

    Non runner to be restored

I am afraid I can only answer the radiator flush question, there is a cooling drain bolt in the pipework nearer the drivers side underneath, the bolt is basically below the radiator and accessible behind the plastic engine front guard if you have one fitted. I found mine was very tight, and...

    Disco 2 TD5 Buyers Guide/pointers?

Agree, I think as a day to day run about a Landrover is probably not a good choice. If you want to be able to tow trailers/caravans or go off-road then it is in it's element. For the wife and kids a Volvo or a Ford will generally be happy with a once a year oil change and brake check. A...

    Disco 2 TD5 Buyers Guide/pointers?

Hi Rob, I am a noob to Discovery II's myself although like you, I researched them before looking at a few and driving a few, so I can give you what I looked for: 1. Rust on the rear chassis - I looked to try and assess if the corrosion looked bad or if anything was done about it such as...

Jack It Up and rest on chassis

I agree with the above, I never crawl under the car until I am completely sure that it is safe to do so. In fact I am a bit paranoid about it. Many years ago a school friend of mine was killed when the car he was working on fell on his chest.

    spedo mileometer reading

How carefully are you keeping an eye on the car? Herbies owner didn't pay enough attention to his antics and look where it got him. Could it be the BCU playing up? No idea on how to fix though aside from taking to a dealer and checking the programming.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Forgot to add to my post: Fixed cleaned and refitted the ashtray/cointray/drinks holder. Both rear springs had broken the plastic retainers so strapped the springs in place and now all works perfectly. Also today passed 5 or 6 guys trying to push a transit van off muddy grass with it's wheels...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Finished fitting side steps to my Disco 2, the drivers side was left for 2 weeks whilst sorting out my EGR sheared bolt issue. I also had well rusted screws in the old factory fitted front mudflap which refused to undo despite many applications of WD40. Upon reading recommendations on here I...

    air to coil swap

My Disco 2 has the air suspension replaced with coils, was like it when I bought it so don't really have anything to compare but it does feel comfortable to me. I suspect also it is lifted slightly as the gap between wheel and arch at the back is noticeably higher than the front. I am based...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Did an oil and filter change on the automatic gearbox today, first time I have done this in fact and it showed. I managed to soak most of my arm and the drive in ATF fluid as it poured out of the filler hole on the Disco 2. For a car with a full service history it does not look like this has...

    Been cleaning!

Nice ratcatcher and disco! I recently got myself a Weihrauch 97K.. amazing piece of kit compared too the fairly basic iron sighted BSA I had in my youth. Only trouble with the Weihrauch is it is quite weighty for the field.

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Bolt drilled successfully.. was a whole lot easier than I expected. It was not totally straight given the space, so I drilled for a nut and bolt instead of trying to clear the existing sheared bolt. Blanking plate fits like a glove. Many thanks for the advice on this thread folks and too MHM...

    Fuel additives ?

Another possibility is pop to your local airfield and buy some AvGas 100LL, pour a dose of that into your regular unleaded. It's pricey at around £2.09 per litre at the moment but it will give you a dose of lead. Just don't go too mad with it, it is high octane. I have known a few pilots to do...

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Yes tried with a hefty masonry chisel, made no difference. However.. Today received the tool to hold the coupling, it fits around the three bolts. This did the trick, still took several hefty whacks to free it but the fan is now off. With the intercooler removed for cleaning and the...

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Hi all, local mechanic is willing to take a look but not until next week. So in the mean time I took out the intercooler for a clean and am just fighting the hose connections to the transmission cooler in order to get the radiator out. This should give a bit more room to get a drill in there...
