    A mystery to solve...

the odds of two cars, BOTH old landy's, having bit come off, at the same speed bump.... is hurting my mind.

    A mystery to solve...

Which is what i thought. But that means it's NOT my calliper bolt. So this speed bump has been bringing land rovers to their knees for some time.

    A mystery to solve...

As a Part 2: This seemed to happen while driving over a speed bump at my kid's school (My partner was driving and she heard a very loud bang). So going back to the speed bump later, I found a washer that looked just like the bottom washer for the shock bush in the road. The washer looks like...

    A mystery to solve...

So.... I installed some TF Big Bore shocks on my rear axle (One Ten 1985). With the shocks were the washers and bushes. The bottom (that went onto the axle) had two washers and two bushes. So I fitted them with the washer on top, then bush, then through the axle fitting, then 2nd bush, 2nd...

Gear lever rests between 1st and 2nd.

Finally got round to sorting it all out. The springs were fine, both connected and unbroken. Had me scratching my head for a bit, until I noticed that the plate that sits ontop of the spring bottoms was sitting at an angle. It had been tightened 'crooked' and so I loosened it off, moved it...

Gear lever rests between 1st and 2nd.

Correct. It all changes very smoothly and drives fine.

Gear lever rests between 1st and 2nd.

I had a look, at the moment both springs look ok. Both are in contact with the sides of the stick if i move it to 3/4. So might just be a question of tension. I will take a proper look later when I have some to get everything open.

Gear lever rests between 1st and 2nd.

Will do - I was sure it was something 'simple'

Gear lever rests between 1st and 2nd.

Had a new clutch installed after my clutch fork broke. All well and good. Drove it home and the gear lever now rests between 1st and 2nd, not 3rd and 4th like it normally did. Any ideas if this is something simple, or should I take it back? it's a 300tdi, with an R380

    Organised overlanding trips

Trouble is you either have to container the car off West or further afield, or drive through Europe to get anywhere good, which is a bore on major roads. If you take the minor road, it's much nicer and a lovely trip, but you waste too much time before getting out past Europe. For me, I would...

gear to put on a defender 130

where are you going? Motorways? Desert? Back roads? It would be hard to say what you should have, but I have never used the following: Winch - Just didn't drive somewhere that my 'house' could end up flipped / stuck / etc. I had a long tow rope and relied on people when i got stuck Waffleboards...

GOING FREE - 110 Exhaust front pipe and front silencer

I have a brand new, un-fitted 110 Front pipe NTC1794, and a front silencer, NTC4614, both britpart. I bought the wrong pipes, so would like someone to use them, rather than just throw them. I'm in North Dorset, just north of Sturminster Newton

    DIY Exhaust

Just thought I would put a little update here. I ended up having to do some mucking about with new mounts as I didn't really think through all the repercussions. I bought the little mounting hooks and the rubber and it was easy enough. Then I discovered that the engine is clearly a little aft...

    DIY Exhaust

I had a long talk to my wife about this - and she has correctly persuaded me to buy a complete 300tdi exhaust system (not much money) and replace totally, so I won't have this problem again. Pitty as I enjoy the process of bodging things, but my bodges are terrible.

    DIY Exhaust

The pipe I have taken off has to be a welded job, as it has the correct end to fit the 300tdi turbo (3 bolts + gasket) - and the right end to fit the middle box that was on the car (3 bolts with collar). A 300tdi front pipe has 3 bolts one end, and then two at the other. So while I think it...

    DIY Exhaust

I keep thinking that, But I just can't seem to find the right front pipe to fit, and it's costing me time more than money to keep trying different ones.

    DIY Exhaust

So I have an MOT to get through. My exhaust has rotten through just behind the mid box. So I order a new mid box. As I was fitting that, I found the front pipe had also rotten through at the elbow coming down off the turbo. So I've got a new one of those. The new pipe and the old pipe are...

    My first defender and questions

Me niether. I locked it once and then my wife open the door by giving the handle a slightly harder pull. I've stopped worrying. I have a battery isolator and a pedal lock.

    Heated front windscreen, worth doing?

I bought and fitted myself. A bit scary, but was great. I used a red bison (?) kit, and does great. Although my cab doesn't have a heater so it's my only way of de-misting
