Yeah its set to 9 deg now, and I will leave it there. Whats does this air idle valve look like and what do I need to do to it? Sounds like we are getting into the realms of tuning, which I have failed at before!

OK so I've done a bit to the V8 tonight but yet my problem continues... I messed around with the timing, turns out it was set to 30 degrees advance so I backed that off and found that if it was set at 12 degrees it ran OK at almost idle (small amount of choke) but still fairly rough above idle...

They are spire nuts. Mine has them, same as yours, but they are not used. I think they are put in as standard fit and are used when different option trim is installed - I think some military versions have head lamp covers that only cover the edges of the head light, and not the side light...

Yeah its right next to the dizzy. Cleaned out the connector earlier today. Sorry my last post was a little misleading - the issue with the spluttering happens all the time regardless of engine temp. I now have a compression tester, I will give that a go tomorrow and see if any thing is a miss.

Ah OK, I hope its not the head gasket just got the thing back together was hoping to use it for a while! Checking the compression will confirm this? dicomark10 - yeah does it when its hot / cold no change, only issue is that when its cold idle is bad also, especially now. Hardly runs on idle...

Dry gas, not heard of that I will check it out. Just flushed some of the tank no water came through with it. But I will do the dry gas just to be sure, as it has sat a while. Discomark10 - thanks, I will have a look for a "how to service SU's" guide now then!

I have just filled the tank up today, but I'll drain half out that should get rid of any water, but I have just done a 2hr journey.

Thanks Guys, I have just replaced both fuel filters and the fuel pump (with standard LR one)! I will try run it with only one filter to see if it helps.

Interesting choice. Not sure I would put flashband on the inside of my Defender. It is Bitchumen after all.
