    V8 Issues under load

Yeah its set to 9 deg now, and I will leave it there. Whats does this air idle valve look like and what do I need to do to it? Sounds like we are getting into the realms of tuning, which I have failed at before!

    V8 Issues under load

OK so I've done a bit to the V8 tonight but yet my problem continues... I messed around with the timing, turns out it was set to 30 degrees advance so I backed that off and found that if it was set at 12 degrees it ran OK at almost idle (small amount of choke) but still fairly rough above idle...

    Defender headlamp covers

They are spire nuts. Mine has them, same as yours, but they are not used. I think they are put in as standard fit and are used when different option trim is installed - I think some military versions have head lamp covers that only cover the edges of the head light, and not the side light...

Minor collision. Should l claim on his insurance?

If he's not willing to pay the £50 for a bumper then go through insurance and get a genuine Land Rover one, the Genuine version will be better quality. And Land Rover will also check over your chassis and the bumper mounts to make sure that the only damage sustained was to the bumper. Plus they...

    V8 Issues under load

Yeah its right next to the dizzy. Cleaned out the connector earlier today. Sorry my last post was a little misleading - the issue with the spluttering happens all the time regardless of engine temp. I now have a compression tester, I will give that a go tomorrow and see if any thing is a miss.

Also it done 109k; so a fair few miles.

    V8 Issues under load

Ah OK, I hope its not the head gasket just got the thing back together was hoping to use it for a while! Checking the compression will confirm this? dicomark10 - yeah does it when its hot / cold no change, only issue is that when its cold idle is bad also, especially now. Hardly runs on idle...

    V8 Issues under load

Thanks for all the responses so far; so to cover what I did to fix the problem over the weekend, I started out trying some of the stuff brought up here already: Took the 2nd inline fuel filter off - no affect checked fuel filters - all OK Drained fuel out of the tank to check for water -...

    V8 Issues under load

Dry gas, not heard of that I will check it out. Just flushed some of the tank no water came through with it. But I will do the dry gas just to be sure, as it has sat a while. Discomark10 - thanks, I will have a look for a "how to service SU's" guide now then!

    V8 Issues under load

I have just filled the tank up today, but I'll drain half out that should get rid of any water, but I have just done a 2hr journey.

    V8 Issues under load

Hmm, yes it has stood for a while, nearly two years! I will give the carb cleaning a go also. Thanks

    V8 Issues under load

Thanks Guys, I have just replaced both fuel filters and the fuel pump (with standard LR one)! I will try run it with only one filter to see if it helps.

    V8 Issues under load

Thor1950 - My thoughts were fuel starvation, but how could I resolve it? Dr evil - Yes, two. The one mounted below the drivers seat on the chassis, with metal lines connecting into it. And the standard inline plastic one in the engine bay connected by rubber. Looking at parts manual...

    V8 Issues under load

So I'm experiencing a few issue with my Defender 3.5L V8 - Standard SU carbs. While driving shes fine until I get to a hill, or longs straights where I'm hitting 60, so when the engine is under load - it starts to splutter and bog down, to the point I have had to pull over a couple of times...

might make a trailor /110 style

Its a good idea. Seen a couple of good ones, best so far was a 109 with a 109 based trailer. Looked ace. I'm planning one at some point but will probably use a sanky as the base. BUT - if I were using a 110 I'd cut it at the back of the front doors, or just in front of the bulkhead. Make...

    Electrical Nightmare - Help?!

I had a similar issue with horn / flash / indicators - turns out each stalk off the steering wheel is a independent unit (each stalk controls a number of different functions but is one control circuit) which can turn faulty. Try replacing them both for about £40 - £60; worked for me or try...

    Replacement of Chequered Plates

Is this a serious question? Surely anyone can work this out......

    Cost to replace bulkhead

With personal experience I can say it cost me two girl friends, 4 liters of sweat, 2 liters of blood and about £1k. But the gains have far out weigh the cost, well at least the first item on the list........

A bit of soundproofing today (pics)

Interesting choice. Not sure I would put flashband on the inside of my Defender. It is Bitchumen after all.
