    just brought my first freelander

I might be wrong and Nodge or Grumpygel will be on to talk to you, but I don’t think you can bench test the vcu. I fitted Bearmach vcu bearings which cost me £93.30. Got them from Ian Sim ltd, who is an independent Land Rover specialist in Ladybank, Fife. They have been on for a couple of...

    Freelander 1 indicators

There is a little rust on the earth connection which I will clean up and try again.

Access holes covered, bulb holder clean and dry, connections in bulb holder look like new, tried two tested bulbs, still no joy.

    just brought my first freelander

Just about everything I have done was because the previous owner didn’t. Brakes, pipes, cables, hubs, vcu bearings, rear diff mounts, tyres, but it seems ludicrous to me that I have to spend lots of time removing the front bumper to get to the headlight unit just to sort an indicator problem.

    just brought my first freelander

Yes mate, mine is a four wheel drive TD4, I’m now looking at the prospect of removing the front bumper to access removal of the headlight unit to sort an indicator problem. I will know better once I can have a good look at it, weather permitting. I think this will be the last straw and I will be...

They do that! They run well for a while, then kick you in the nuts with a small problem that escalates into a mega one.

Do I have to take off the full headlight unit?

    Freelander 1 indicators

My left side indicators are flashing fast, front near side not flashing. Tried hazard lights, front near side not flashing. Off side working fine. Tried two tested bulbs, still the same. Changed the four pin towing relay for three pin, still the same. The bulb holder is dry and clean. How far...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Didn’t want to risk damaging anything getting the original one out. It was a lot easier shoving a £5 one into the top hose. Gauge is perfectly upright now and the cabin is a hell of a lot warmer. Prior to fitting, the gauge was only going up quarter of the way. I was going to remove the manifold...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Fitted an extra thermostat and cleaned all the crap out of the manifold intakes and hoses. Got an oil extraction kit to do an oil change later this week, while it was new I fed it down the coolant hose and drew off quite a bit. There was only half a cupful left when I took off the hose to fit...

    Td4 manual gearbox oil change

The fitted thermostat is a bit lazy and not coming up to right temperature. As it is fitted it can be awkward to change and cause damage doing it, so it is easier to fit a thermostat in one of the top hoses, only cost a fiver. Gives me a chance to clean out manifold at the same time. It’s a well...

    Td4 manual gearbox oil change

I also greased the gear linkage while I was under it. On the upside, the gear changing is really smooth again, so it was worth doing. Engine oil and fitting extra thermostat tomorrow, weather permitting.

Did that mate, stood them both in a dish of hot water.

    Td4 manual gearbox oil change

Changed my gearbox oil today. Got both plugs out no problem. Re filling was an absolute b******. The guy who designed the filler plug in that position requires a good kick in the nuts! I ended up with a long section of plastic pipe and the oil bottle up in the wheel arch. It took quite a while...

    P38A Alluminium panel corrosion treatment.

We used to use a thing called yellow chromate in the navy. Very easy to apply to clean aluminium, used to etch and protect. Stood up to lots of seawater.

Freelander 1 Question About Cheap tyres...I mean really cheap

Totally agree mate. The tyres are the only contact I have with the road. I always fit decent tyres.
