    Loose Steering Wheel

I currently have a quick release steering wheel (tratter came like that) but when fitted it seems a have a fair bit of play between the splines and the boss. The shaft isn't 36 or 48 spline, its got a large "flat" spot on the shaft to key the steering wheel. Any one else experienced a loose...

    solder not sticking

Yeah it's still freely available in the UK from the likes of Loctite. Prolonged inhalation of flux fumes isn't overly good for you, make sure you've got good ventilation or extraction if in a confined space. And safety glasses are highly recommended, solder can and will 'spit'.

    solder not sticking

If your using 60/40 Sn/Pb multicore solder you should have no problems at 450degC, if you're using new "safe" solder then good luck, its complete dog ****e. Get the wire as hot as you can before applying any solder and it might take.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Changed one seat belt and got about half through the other, modifying the brackets took forever due to the seatbelt mounting brackets being made of the hardest 2mm of steel known to mankind and it eating drill bits (even non-cheap ones...) o_O

    Hi from South Wales :)

If its a one piece serpentine belt in the front of the engine, behind the fan, then its likely a 300TDi. The layout of the gearbox will indicate what gearbox it is (reverse being right and back is R380) I wouldn't assume the engine type based on the year/VIN as it could have been converted.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Steering box recon with bush instead of bearings

Grab hold of the bottom of the bend in the radius arm, where it goes under the axle, and try to give it a wobble and try to move it side to side. Like any other bush it should be stiff and not move easily (at least not by hand anyway)

Steering box recon with bush instead of bearings

check all your suspension bushes, i had the same thing after changing panhard rod bushes and discovered my radius arms bushes were so shot the arms had 5mm of play each way in them... it eventually destroyed the tie bar on the steering box and suddenly wobble was at 20mph and not 40mph... Also...

    D110 td5 low speed vibration

This sounds like it could be worn bushes Check your panhard rod bushes, grab hold of the panhard rod and try to give it a wriggle. there should be no play. Similarly, check the front radius arm bushes too, for them try to wiggle them side to side, again there should be no play.

    Steering Box tie bar replacement

So just chuck a washer on and nip it up? then nip it up some more? I can only do some big 3 point turns at the moment and the next time it goes on the road is to the MOT centre.

    Steering Box tie bar replacement

When taking my sieve of a steering box off on my 90 I discovered the tie bar had sheared in 2. (source of loud bang discovered!) The one I took off has slots for mounting it to the steering box, the replacement has holes. On the slotted tie bar it is a snug fit for the steering box mounting...
