    Son missing

I'm so sorry to hear your tragic news, being a dad myself, I can understand how heartbreaking it is, and how much this will be destroying your world. I've only really known you from you posts here, and didn't know your son, but I think he'd want you to stay strong, and continue to be the hero he...

Stuck in the mud Dunnet Head Scotland

For sure. I've seen a couple of instances where AA etc probably couldn't handle it with one guy and his vehicle, as it's taken a couple of landy's, a few straps and other recovery gear to get the stuck vehicle moving. Admittedly, some cases, a bit of planning and research may have prevented them...

Stuck in the mud Dunnet Head Scotland

I get what you're saying, and if the situation was life threatening, then yes, they should be calling the emergency services. As for RAC/AA/other recovery services, some won't do it. I've heard of people that had broken down on lanes (admittedly, they shouldn't have gone out alone) and recovery...

Stuck in the mud Dunnet Head Scotland

Joined this thread a little late, so I hope you don't mind me sticking my 10p worth in. Personally, I think it's a good thing having 'Desptch Agents', especially if it means our safety is being looked after. Despite now being in my 40's, I still get a rush of excitment getting out in the Landy...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Got rid of my three friends at last on Saturday. Replacement abs pump and shuttle valve switch fitted, side steps removed ready for the rock sliders, and the annoying rear step to the back door is finally gone!!! Now, I need to get an MOT, then I'll be getting the new hd rear bumper fitted...

    Disco 2 Front grill

Easy enough to remove the grille, but a lot of people do is just drill their own holes. The main thing would be to make sure you mark where you're going to drill and ensure it's all evenly spaced etc. I was planning on doing it with mine, but after the grille was cut to accommodate the winch, I...

2” lift on standard disco 2

I must admit, the D2 does look rather good with a lift!!! One mistake some people do make is to do the suspension lift without extending things like your break lines, breathers etc. I'd definitely say do the job properly to begin with rather than have headaches later down the line.

2” lift on standard disco 2

I agree with Brian, nearly all green lanes in the UK will be easily drivable without a lift. However, I am planning a 2" lift in the long term. I'm only wanting to do it so I can fit some slightly larger tyres to give the difs a bit more clearance (last trip to Snowdonia, I only got stuck once...

Disco 2 TD5 10p engine......are the belt tensioners self tensioning?

I did used to have a decent set of tools, but the ex-wife had most of them when we split (she’s better under the bonnet than me!!). I’ll have to invest in a new set of spanner’s ‍♂️. Needing to change the abs pump due to the three amigos. Had a fault on pump 2 (actuator not working properly)...

Disco 2 TD5 10p engine......are the belt tensioners self tensioning?

Many thanks Brian, well written and informative post. I'm guessing it's always better to replace the tensioner rather than just sticking with the original? I didn't think it looked a difficult job, just more awkward if I didn't remove the fan. Funnily, I'm finding this more daunting than...

Disco 2 TD5 10p engine......are the belt tensioners self tensioning?

Hi All, I know this question has probably been asked before, but the search function isn't working and I don't have time to scroll through the threads to find the answer (at work you see ;)), but, as per the title, I'm looking to find out if the belt tensioner on the 10p engine are self...

Green laning around Rugby (ish) ... ;)

Cheers for the offer, I may well take you up on it. I should really get a Nanocom of my own, it'd be handy when I have to bleed the abs system due to the 'power bleed' function, then of course making sure the replacement is set up properly. Thankfully it's all timed nicely with the tax expiring...

Green laning around Rugby (ish) ... ;)

Sam, who runs it can be fairly busy, but he's usually on line through out the day, so he'll most likely approve your request soon. If he asks, let him know Grimm (or Ian) told you about the group and he'll add you. For sure!!! I'll be looking forward to having my abs sorted and getting back...

Green laning around Rugby (ish) ... ;)

@Hard-Drive , I've currently got the three amigos to sort, but hopefully getting the parts I need imminently. Once I've fitted them and got everything running nicely, I'll see about organising a day out. Failing that, if you're on Facebook, look up M.G.L.S., top group that I'm in, and have...

Anyone with nanocom can help me

I just looked on the LZ international Rescue map, click on the markers and it will list the tools/recovery gear etc that people have. lewist1993 is based in Rochdale, doesn't look like its a Nanocom, but he does list having a diagnostic tool. I was going to suggest al3hg, but he's based in...

Disco 2 new wheel bearing noise

Out of interest, what tyres do you have? There's a wear characteristic known as 'heel & toe' wear. It can be influenced by vehicle settings and/or low tyre pressures. This type of tyre wear can generate noise and vibration. If its that, run your hand around the tread (forward and backward). If...

    Government failing rural communities

The sad thing is, there'll always be idiots that ruin it for responsible users. And I don't just mean 4x4's. Ramblers, horse riders, motorcycle riders. What we could really do with is having the responsible users from all walks weeding out the irresponsible muppets!! I love driving Snowdonia...

Disco 2 Just how good are they off road?

To be fair, thats an issue with all 4x4's, not just D2's. I've been everywhere my mates have been (110 Defender with 2"lift and a D1 with 2" lift and 265/76R16 tyres). The only time I've needed help was due to deep ruts and not enough clearance for my diffs (fortunately I have diff guards), and...

    Government failing rural communities

Makes a change for the BBC!!! I think so long as we choose or lanes wisely, and unfortunately, too many people don't, it would make our lives so much easier. I'm with M.G.L.S. (look up the page of FB) and we only drive sustainable routes, avoiding lanes that become wet and boggy unless the...
