    P38A Head gasket advice needed

Bath (silicone) sealant - yep..!!! Makes its way round to the rad bleed pipe and blocks it at the header tank end.. steam results.

Is an engine replacement in a 4.6 P38 a complicated job?

…and check for the problem I had - blocked rad bleed pipe into the header tank. Ring UV tracer dye too.

I'll check for drips - good point.

Is an engine replacement in a 4.6 P38 a complicated job?

Just to add: The overheating was caused by a blocked radiator bleed pipe, so that problem was found and fixed. Doesn't overheat at all now - well, if you believe the temp gauge. But no boiling noises anyway!! Doesn't seem to be using coolant. So maybe I have just not bled the system fully - plus...

Not me, that must have been someone else.

Is an engine replacement in a 4.6 P38 a complicated job?

My P38 head gasket seems to be leaking gas into the cooling system, after an overheating event. No white smoke, no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil. The header tank does not smell of exhaust fumes at all. I got a RELD test kit, blue dye turned yellow in 2 minutes, confirming exhaust...

    Crit'air stickers in France...?

I want a dark grey sticker - it would mean that I refuse to support child slave labour being used to extract rare minerals from mines in African countries and then shipped out by Wagner Group thugs and sold to electric car manufacturers via Switzerland.

    Crit'air stickers in France...?

How very French - I'll avoid the cities then. So, no parking your Ferrari outside the Casino these days.... Thanks for the explanation.

    Crit'air stickers in France...?

The RAC site Crit'air guide confused me... see attached.

    Crit'air stickers in France...?

Can't find anything listed on the above subject. The stickers relate to the vehicle emissions, a bit like our ULEZ. I understand that "Crit'air" stickers are required in France, for driving in certain cities. Failure to display one in the lower right side of the windscreen leads to a hefty fine...

P38 4.0SE GEMS - Question ref oil filler cap

Thanks, I hoped that was the answer but thought I would double-check. I think I might carefully remove it and replace after adding some Loctite Blue to the thread.

Dumb question - P38 through carwash?

Thanks - very useful info. I have done the mesh replacement so presumably the old rotted foam is now residing in the tubes, held in place by the duckbills.... Duck bills on tubes, the favourite design option, are OK off the production line when everything is nice and clean...

P38 4.0SE GEMS - Question ref oil filler cap

Another "interesting" event on my P38. The oil filler cap was sticky and when I managed to turn it, the adapter that connects it to the cam cover came away too. I cleaned the adapter threads and carefully screwed it back into the cam cover using the two internal ears that it has. I then cleaned...

Dumb question - P38 through carwash?

I can’t see any drains, it would really help to know what I am looking for, at each end. The ends of the scuttle are obscured on my P38, underneath several layers of metal.

Dumb question - P38 through carwash?

Struggling to find the scuttle drains - got a picture or diagram etc? Many thanks....

    P38 towbar fitting

A note ref my experiences getting a tow-bar fitted to my 1997 4.0SE. Like yours, mine had no previous fittings. I got a complete original towbar from a breaker, including the swan neck. Rusty of course, and it was a tricky job separating the swan neck from the cross tube. I then had the cross...

    90 Stolen

It is not listed as stolen. The owner should report it as stolen. Or maybe it hasn't been stolen at all.
