What have you done to your Freelander today

Nothing, as it has gone and I am missing it badly. The exit was faster than expected. Got a real hair dresser's car to deal with (MR2) then I should get a long term Freelander. Have a clear idea of what I would like, just need a suitable seller to co-operate.

Freelander 1.8 petrol, cylinder head bolt tightening sequence and torque setting? Hgf.

Sounds good. One wee point, the surface needs to be a bit better than your average head skim to meet Rover's spec. I lap with 400 grit and WD40 as a lubricant on a flat surface. That is better than Rover's spec and I have not had a failure.

    SNOW OFF-ROADING

Clearly they are disco and defender fanatics. No way would they introduce a Freelander to show them up.

Freelander 1.8 petrol, cylinder head bolt tightening sequence and torque setting? Hgf.

It is not as simple as just changing the head gasket. Make sure the block and head is true within .002". The head possibly won't be. Then check for grooves in the head from the HG seal on top of the liners. If you can feel them gripping a finger nail then the head needs to be peened and...

    VCU Torque test results

Welding up with fluid in it is not exactly going to improve the longevity of the fluid - although I have done it myself. Next one I shall rebuild it, weld it up, and then vacuum it out with the air-con vacuum pump before I let the fluid suck in. I suspect that is how they are originally filled.

    Hi

There are special tools, but it is not hard to do it without them. Plenty of good advice on here. So, has the cam belt broken? What other damage has it done?

And there are the ones on the ends of the thermostat tube in a KV6, and are only of use for about 10 seconds before becoming redundant. And another one on the fat end of the driveshaft CV joint when using a modified Mazda 3 CV joint boot to replace the original.

Not saying it is only worth $500, but I would not pay more. Even getting back here would cost not much less than $500 no matter if I used a commercial operator or took a trip down and stayed a night or two (no, not even for a FL, will I sleep in the car). However at $500 it might work, for a...

Was not seriously interested in it. But, maybe for $500 I could be forced to buy it, but the ES trim etc. has spoilt me.

Yes, some good interest. I am thinking I should have asked more, but the price seems fair. If it was not for the fact that I want to "invest" in another one I would keep it.

    FL1 OBD2 port

EU required all petrol vehicles to support OBD2 from 2001 and diesels from 2003. Prior to that most vehicles (including LR) had primitive and highly proprietary support.

    Freelander 1 Overfueling

Older engines will use either Mass Air Flow (MAF) or MAP sensors to determine fueling (amongst other things). These days it is common to use both as MAP works better at low manifold pressures (less air flow) and MAF for higher air flows, at least in throttle controlled engines. And speaking of...
