    P38A Penetrating fluid -balls

On YouTube the channel "Project Farm" tested penetrating fluids to find the best. Don't recall the result. I used to use WD40 but switched to PB Blaster and believe it does better.

As Tomcat 59 Alan says, behind the side panel in the footwell on the right side, driver's side in U K. White connector with many wires.

    P38A Air con thoughts.

When the AC in my 98 didn't run it turned out to be a corroded connector behind right side kick panel. You don't need the fans to run to get cold air. If you hot wire the compressor or bridge the relay the clutch should engage and you will get cold air. If you don't you need gas.

    Eas program no comms

Are you using EAS Unlock V4 with the supplied cable or the free version? If using the free version with made up cable and USB to Serial converter it could be the cable or the converter. I had to try 3 different converters before I found one that worked. Purchased on Amazon, Dtech converter with...

    New / p38 eas kicker

If you are using a USB to Serial port converter it is probably the converter. I tried 3 different ones and the on one that worked was bought on Amazon. A "Dtech" brand with the FTDI chip set. The chip set is the important factor.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

The nuts and bolts are not a problem but no one over here is going to be selling that special tool. I don't see any advantage over a thin wall socket and extension anyway. My brother told me Snap-on has a thin wall impact socket but it's something like US $30. I will just get them snugged up...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Spent half of yesterday and today replacing the front driveshaft on my 99 P38 as the U joint was worn out at the diff end causing much vibration. A real pain to get out as there is very little clearance for sockets or wrenches to get at the nuts which happened to be incredibly tight. The pain...

    Independent engin temperature gauge

This is what Britannica Restorations suggested adding to your coolant tank along with an alarm. I am planning to do that eventually as I have had a couple of water leaks with the P38.

    Independent engin temperature gauge

I know you don't want it in the coolant hose but just thought I would show the adapter I installed in my P38 to go with an Autometer temp Guage. I had to really search on Amazon and ebay before I could find a thermocouple unit to bolt onto the engine. Not common over here. You gotta love those...

P38A all of sudden wont restart

Sunny here today for a nice change. The last 10 years of my career were spent working for an OH&S consulting firm. I retired in 2014 but still work occasional jobs through the year as they are always short of staff. For Suncor we mainly do shutdown support in the Spring and fall. Sometimes help...

P38A all of sudden wont restart

Just got back on the 17th from 2 weeks work at Suncor Base Plant north of Ft. McMurray. Weather there was better than in the Lower Mainland, only 1 day of rain and not too cold. There are usually Defenders for sale on Vancouver Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Prices usually start around $40k...

P38A all of sudden wont restart

One of the problems with the P38 is water leaks to the interior which van land on electrical connections and destroy them over time so no corrosion on the body doesn't mean no corrosion inside. Always worth checking the electrical connectors behind the side panels in the footwells. Probably not...

    P38A EAS AIR COMPRESSOR

I think the tank gets up to 135 psi. The compressor is a high pressure, low volume unit so I don't think it can provide a continuous flow at much pressure.

Keeping my v8 at the right temp

On YouTube there is a channel called Chris Fix. He has a good procedure for thoroughly cleaning out your cooling system. On my 99 P38 I purchased from Amazon an adapter that you install in the upper hose (preferably) which has a port for a sensor. I use an Autometer gauge with the sensor in the...

P38A all of sudden wont restart

I would measure battery voltage just to make sure that is OK. Should be at least 12.4 volts. Clean up the battery posts and cable ends once again to be sure they are OK. If all the other connections check out (loosen, wiggle, re-tighten) I think I would jump the starter to see if it still works...

P38A another way to hold back brushes when rebuilding a compressor

This looked like an O ring to me so I never tried to use it in that way. I wonder if it always gets back into proper position?
