    L322 Steering rack leak

I have had my 2008 L322 SC at the dealers for over 2 weeks trying to get my rear suspension vibration diagnosed and fixed. One thing they commented on was a leak from my steering rack and suggested I change it for a mere $5,000 CAD. Not going to happen considering I can buy a rebuilt one for...

    Why buy a Land Rover?

I changed the AC compressor in my 2008 full size RR myself. An awkward job but patience won out. The AC compressor in my P38 is on top of the motor. Couldn't be easier to get to. Some cars are just harder to work on than others.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Not exactly "today" but this weekend was the last overnight camping trip for my club, the RoverLanders of BC. Did a short loop in the mountains 100 miles east of Vancouver. The old P38 kept up with the Defenders, D2s and LR3s once again.

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

OP said he couldn't talk to his wife above 30mph. I guess you always travel by yourself and never listen to music?

    P38A Front hub removal

OK, sounds good. Pulling everything out at once should work. Tapping on mine with a hammer did nothing so had to use puller. I swapped one in from a used axle I purchased. I think the other one was not so tight so maybe you will be lucky

    Disco 1 instead of my Series 2 109 ?

"Often I'm on side slopes too, which is one reasonwhy I'd rather not put a lift kit on a Disco" I think every Disco in my club has at least a 2 inch lift and they have no trouble passing over side slopes that Defenders cross. Most of these vehicles also have roof top tents which makes them a...

    P38A Front hub removal

Do you mean the kingpin joints? You don't have to remove the hubs to change the ball joints, the ones on the ends of the steering drag link. If you do need to pull the hubs the entire axle will come out with the hub unless you take that nut off. When I changed my front right hub I had to use a...

P38A Fixed- Battery going flat again

I would suggest you look for one that has a maximum current rating of 150 amps or less. You are trying to measure a current drain that is probably a few amps and this might be hard to measure accurately on a meter designed to measure up to 400 or 600 amps. The one I use has a maximum of 60 amps...

P38A Sanity Check, are the Rover V8s any good??

If you have to immediately sell your diesel and rely on this car as a daily driver that may not be a good idea. At least take it to a garage and have them do an inspection to look for problems. Offer to pay for this. As for whether or not the V8 is a good engine I tend to agree with the idea...

P38A Can you lift a P38 without lifting the standard height

I have used the free EAS Ulock software to change my off heights. Front set at 165 and rear at 140. This sets the bottom lip of the front and rear fenders/wings at 36.5 inches. The frame at the driver's door is 16 inches above ground. Top of the front bumper is 30.5 inches above ground. I ha.ve...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Yesterday I installed my $1,000 driveshaft expecting it to cure my drivetrain vibration but nothing has changed. At least it was a fairly easy job and now I don't have to worry about the driveshaft . I still get the same vibration after 10 minutes of driving, the impression that something is...

UK touring with a Landy (But which one)?

If you are not going to be doing a lot, or any, off roading why even consider a Land Rover? Are they much cheaper than an estate car ( what we call a station wagon) or a van?

    Other JLR win another award

Two weeks ago I completed a 6,000 mile tour through the SW USA in my 99 P38 without an issue aside from my off road misadventure with my air spring. I think the only things I've had to replace are a U joint and the right front hub. Have fiddled with the air suspension a lot though and a few...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Today removed the rear driveshaft from my 2008 full size SC. It had developed a vibration which I believed could only be a driveshaft problem. Could not confirm this from under the car so decided to remove. To do this you have to remove exhaust and heat shields. Initially planned to unbolt the...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Picked up a load of chicken wire. Going to try and squirrel proof my 15x20 workshop. Little buggers started a home inside the walls. Run around crapping everywhere and knocking stuff off the shelves. Chewed up a lot of boxes to make bedding and then finally chewed through the electrical wiring...

P38A unintended consequences - help sought

My club requires us to carry full size tires for all off road excursions. I have had one sidewall cut that could not be fixed. Bought two new tires and then discovered the remaining old tire would barely fit in the well. No 33's going in there. One of our club members had 3 flat tires on a trip...
