    Series 3 towbar thread sizes

I'll have a look, I fitted all this a few years ago. 3/8 or 7/16, I can't remember. They are just plain holes.

    Leaky swivel - maybe?

The seals seem to seal on the face rather than the OD so once they are clamped up they seal. I don't think my seal was leaking despite being very old. I cut the new one, left the spring from the old one round the axle and swapped it over, worked fine. In my case the steering arm just has...

    Leaky swivel - maybe?

I've had a very similar problem on my 2A. I changed the seal and it did not stop the leak, swivles were in very good condition ans it has leather gaiters. In my case I found 2 problems: The drain plug was sheared off and oil was leaking past the thread, I extracted the broken one and fixed...

    Tyre help

They really must be the same offset and rim width. The offset changes the effective castor on the steering and so it will always pull to one side and it moves the braking force so it is dangerous under hard braking. The rim with changes the tyre profile, it sits higher on a narrower rim and...

    Drum brake setup….

Take all (ALL) the pins out the rods and the pivot on the axle too and that lever under the front of the tub, that can put a side force on the rod too. Clean them all up. Take the wedges out the brake actuators and clean them up. Its a right faff (did it recently) but the system is very...

Series 3 on Range Rover axles help!

I have RR diffs in Series axles, it works fine, and set up the drums work well. Welding the plates on can be done, but its a lot of welding and a risk the axle warps with all the heat and weld shrinkage. And after that its still too wide. Make sure you have oil fillers, check the diffs you...

    Tyre help

Go to modern 205/80 radials ASAP and fit tubes as you will have tubeless rims. Agree re valve adaptors, been there! Crossply tyres are truly awful to drive on compared to a modern radial. You will never track straight on cross plys, they tramline too much.

    Does diesel go off?

Agreed, diesel bug is the big problem, any moisture and once it in its an awful mess. It also pees acid so it causes corrosion too.

    Vehicle transport

I found a company that consolidate car loads, yours gets loaded on the return runs. Takes a while as it will be shifted in several stages and may spend time in yards along the way. A lot cheaper but not suitable if its a valuable vehicle. I got a Merc shifted from Hartlepool to Slough, took...

Carrying fuel in containers - the legality

I can't find it now, but there's a clip of a guy in Africa welding a petrol tank with fuel in, he puts a rag in the filler and lights it, then does the weld. Its the same aide as flare towers at refineries and there was once a proposal to put flares around Canvey Island to ignite any leaking...

Carrying fuel in containers - the legality

I think the things to think about with extra fuel, especially petrol are: Do I want to be covered in it in an accident? I did once have an accident carrying extra petrol and got soaked, its a very salutary lesson. Where will I store it when I don't want to carry it about? Its a significant...

    Ratty's Poll - Security devices.

Could work, I use a £12 tracker with a PAYG sim. The main things to look out for are battery life/drain as its on 24/7 and concealing it. It needs good satellite signal and good cellnet signal but not to be visible.. The PAYG cost is one text per month, about £10 per year on my set up. App...

    Alternative Series Tyres

Yes tubeless. I was on LWB tubed wheels and when I got the new tyres I made the change to the wider Wolf wheels and tubeless. They are a straight bolt on but note mine is ex-mil so its got a 2" lift as standard. The wheel dia on these is 31.7" which gives a nice high gearing and is very close...

    Alternative Series Tyres

The great thing about high profile tyres is that the tide came in and we were parked in 4" of water but it didn't reach the rims. We'd camped there for the night. Roof-rack is re-purposed old step ladders and bamboo flooring, works a treat. Fixes on with M6 tamper proof bolts.

    Alternative Series Tyres

Yes, very happy, they are 235/85/16 and on the Wolf 6.5 wheels fit straight on. The Wolfs do need longer studs (3/16 longer) but you can get these for around £1 if you shop around. The bad news is that the £105 price was an intto offer subsidised by Yokohama, that's now ended so prices have...

LANDROVER SCAM .. 5 sunbeam street wolverhampton..ebay ..smart reconditioning

If you look at the location its also near a hot spot for "crash for cash" insurance fraud so there's (as you say) a good chance this is a well organised gang. The trouble we had was the Police attitude was "its just low level anti-social behaviour " when what we were seeing was drug deliveries...
