    Use a suction unit...we use one, bloody brilliant, just stuff the tube down where the dip stick lives! You do have to wiggle it around a bit to make sure you drain the sump entirely but you end up with a great oil change without ANY mess! Our one cost about £30 and has been worth every penny.

    Bit left field, but have you examined your brake discs? If you had to apply your brakes to avoid a collision etc there is a possibility that you may have 'scarred' the disc. They are not too expensive to replace if you do the work yourself, we had a similar issue once after a 'kamakazie'...

    He is right you know, thoroughly check the rear quarters, they are the 'Attenborough Retreat' for tin worm, as are the rear jacking points and you must also check the dreaded suspension rear bush assemblies which are a MASSIVE job to replace!

    Before you pull the trigger on a new or reconditioned box, firstly as has been suggested make sure the oil levels are correct with the engine and box warm. Then do a complete diagnostics scan, and I mean complete.....it may takeup to half an hour, but these old GM boxes have ways of hiding error...
