    1993 Defender 90 Rebuild

How many coats did you give it, I probably gave mine 3 coats of CIO and itā€™s still ok, even after a year of trialling too.

    Windscreen Rubber

I had all the dilemma when rebuilding my ā€˜90 after reading the forums. Poor quality seals, windscreens cracking during fitting, use a professional installer etc. I bought a Ā£21 seal off eBay and refitted the original windscreen as a practice, itā€™s still there, complete with the milkiness of...

ā€œAnd it makes the washing machine smell.ā€œ And no doubt will stain it or wait until the next wash. Hang on, since when did you learn to use a washing machine?

    Roof to Windscreen Frame Seal

There are two seals between the roof and the screen frame. I split mine to paint the screen frame, replaced the seals and its been ok since then. More leaks are due to a failed glass seal which isnā€™t really that difficult to replace if you warm it first.

    LT230 with difflock

He would be better to go for the 1.4, thatā€™s what I have done and why I have a spare 1.6. The 1.6 is hellish on road, car is screaming all the time for not a great outcome. The 1.4 is brilliant for day to day running and towing at realistic Defender speeds. If you want high speed a BMW M57...

    LT230 with difflock

Cross my palm with silver, or maybe Iā€™ll keep it for the Tomcat. Sodā€™s Law dictates if I sell Iā€™ll need to buy another shortly afterwards. This the logic I use to hoard stuff.

    My new Landy project

Gratuitous photo, Cut 4 holes in the bonnet to release some of the heat. New 92degree thermo switch fitted to the top hose to switch on the fans in case I forget to. New Tomcat bumper fitted, I had to replace the brackets and paint it.nThe chassis leg was 5mm too tall.

Once you have all the panels fitted you won't hear it for the 300TDI.

    My new Landy project

Took the Tomcat to the SLROC driving day, we were competing in the Defender yesterday however, this was a play day. The Fox Dampers had been set by the previous owner to 50psi to help with trialing, we reset them to 150 psi and completely changed the way the car worked , for the better. Most of...

Gearbox crossmember fitted. I say fitted, fabricated more like. The td5 crossmember was too wide by 3mm, the offside mount has ā€œkissedā€ a large rock and needed an oxyacetylene torch to reform it. I couldnā€™t widen the space so, cut the x member reduced it by the required 3mm and welded together...

    My new Landy project

Wipers fitted. However, the knurled ā€œnutā€ that the wiper fits on to is a d shape on a defender, this one has series wheel boxes, round spindles. Schoolboy error, to change the wheel boxes means changing the gear in the motor too, old one is 35 mm newer one 45 mm. To change the knurled nut Ā£14...
